1.associate a and b，就是讲a和b联系起来。这里提到了they与陌生人的关系，存在转折，无非是虽然关系很好，但是也小心戒备，或者虽然谨慎，但是第一印象不错。
2.The demise of the rigorous academic curriculum 来自the progressive rhetoric ，那么必定是该the progressive rhetoric 宣称the rigorous academic curriculum 存在各种问题。d的话，句意不通。e更为合适。
3.常识知道Borrowing a copyrighted book from a library 是正常的行为，当然是被entrenched custom所接受的，但是这里为什么出现theft呢，因为这里是程度转折。后半句便体现theft的情绪词。C最佳。

从图书馆借书等于是一种被风俗允许的偷窃行为，作者的财产被反复使用而没有得到任何补偿

4.however，前后转折，tissue cultures 与whole organism对应。work则是常规用法。

可能我说的也不太明白~
很多句子不需要去弄懂意思，只要找准逻辑词，是重复还是反义，还是程度转折，然后认真选词就好。

个人认为第三题A 的 application没道理啊。偷窃就是白拿别人东西嘛，所以应该是看别人的书不给回报，不是compensation至少也是acknowledgement吧~
