As proof of funding, you must submit a satisfactorily completed copy of the Visa Request Form, certifying that you will have available at least $(US) 44,741.00 for your first academic year at the University and indicating a source of support for each additional year.
Instructions on completing the form and submitting the required supporting documents are available here. Please note that an I-20 form cannot be issued until this material has been received by our office. Because the issuance of student visas is often a time-consuming process, we strongly encourage you to return your documents by email to askccas@gwu.edu no later than May 15, 2012.

应该是说寄送了资金证明学校才会寄相关办理国际学生身份的资料给你，至于是否必须去，我感觉既然是5月15之前才答复，楼主大可以等到各个学校录取结果都下来后再做决定。
