One of your classmates needs help with someschoolwork. Which solution would you recommend your classmate should do: to askyou for help or to find a professional tutor for help. Include reasons anddetails to in your response
When classmates encounter problems in study, some students suggest them to ask professional teachers for help, which I think is reasonable and benefits a lot. However, in my view of point it is better to get the help from your classmates.
First, the professors may outline the way to work out the problem, whether you really understand or not. As we know tutors in college usually have little time, when they are after class and it is their best effort to give you the tips about how to solve the problems. One of my teachers, every time the class was over she must get hurry to catch the school bus to go home, because her home is far away from school, so we almost had no time to mention our questions, even though she could answer the question, she just told us the main point, so less and less students came to her for help, we prefer to ask our classmates.
Second, students usually can understand the methods other classmates express to them easily. Due to the sophistication in specific field, tutors may solve the problem professionally and sometimes it is hard for students to follow. One of my roommates once worked in a laboratory, he was a junior in the lab, during that time, when he had problem in study he would come to us for help and he said although he asked the senior for help, he couldn’t figure out the issue, since it is hard to follow what they explained.
Third, it is benefit much for you to teach your classmates, when you are teaching, you solve the problem again, leading to not only stabilize your knowledge, but also have an impressive on that kind of problem, either you or your classmate makes progress. Thinking back to when I was in high school, my monitor was pleased to help classmates with the problems in study.Despite less time on the private study, he always ranked No.1 in final exams and even won the International Physics Olympiad prize, when talked to his success in study, he said helping people at the same time is helping yourself.
To sum up, it is no doubt that asking professors for help has some advantages, for example the professors can answer you quickly, but to get help from classmates be more useful, because of the more understandable way of solving problems, the progress both of the classmates make as well as the limited answers of professors. |
