130.有些人认为公司有义务改善环境和社会福利；有些人则认为公司的唯一责任就是在合法经营的前提下尽可能多赚钱

There is much controversy over the issue of whether the corporations have a responsibility to promote the well-being of the societies and environments in which they operate. Some people believe that the corporations have the only responsibility to make as much as possible. While others think it is the corporations' obligation to make contributions to societies. As a whole, I would agree with the latter.

It is true that to make more profits within the law is the goal of all corporations. If the law forces the corporations to promote the well-being of the society and environments, it will surly undermine the corporations' enthusiasm to operate and make money. Besides, it will have some bad effect on the corporations which have already been short of money. It will be their great burden.

However, to pursue the profit as the only goal does no good to our whole society. The definition of social responsibility will tell us whether the corporations have responsibility to help the society. Social responsibility is defined as an ethical theory that an entity, whether it is a government, corporations, organizations or individual, has a responsibility to society. Apparently, corporations are among them.

To better assess the argument, the well-being of our society and the environments should be considered separately. First, for the well-being of our society, the corporations should do their best to help it. There are many people live in a low state that needs help. For example, there are many children who are very poor and have no chance to receive an education. There are many vagrants who have no job and suffer from starve. And there are many old who have no sons or daughters to take care of them do not have money to go to the doctors. How can a corporation simply make as much as money without helping those who are in need? Second, when it comes to the environment, it is equally important for the corporations to help improve their environments. It is known that environments will affect our life. If the corporations work without taking the environment into consideration, the environments may be worsen. And finally it will have great bad influence on the development of the corporations. Therefore the corporations should do their best to improve the society development and the environment.

In addition, the goal to make money is not contradict with the corporations’ responsibility to help the society. On the contrary, they promote each other. For instance, there is a small company named Feixiang Company in may hometown. The company will donate 30 percent of its profit to help those poor every year. As a result, it achieves a great reputation in a few years. Government praises its behavior and more workers would like to work in that company. It become a large company. But from beginning to end, it has never stopped donating its money to help the society. Therefore,
I advice that other corporations should learn from it.

To sum up, it is corporations’ goal to make more money, and then they should help the society and environment. The two responsibilities will promote each other and make it better for the corporations’ development and the standard of people’s life.
