The speaker consents that the primary goal of technological advancement should be to increase people's efficiency so that they have more leisure time.Admittedly,with the development of assemble lines,computers,and intellectual robots,the efficiency of labor has improved and leads to a more convenient environment.With the help of assemble lines,we achieved the goal of industrialization and attained the prosperity of modern society.With the invention of computer,we stepped into a more fast and convenient digital world.With the step of intellectual robots,our horizons were broadened form the undersea-research to the unmanned aerospace exploration.Technological advancement do increase people's efficiency,however,the speaker unreasonably asserts that the primary goal of technological advancement should be to increase people's efficiency by overlooking other benefits brought out by advancement of technology and by misunderstanding the goal and consequence of increasing people's efficiency.
The advancement of technological are important for today's society.The goal of it are not unique,opinions are different from individual to individual.In the eye of a scientist,the goal of technological advancement is improving the development of the science both in theoretically and pragmatically.In terms of a doctor,he may harbor the idea that the goal we are talking about is to cure more suffering patients and to eradicate those incurable diseases insofar.Still, for business man,the goal is much simple,making money.However,the general goal of improvement of technology is progress,no matter in humanity,ethics,art,science or other terms.As long as there still are people dying from incurable diseases or famine,the goal of technological advancement is to improve the environment and quality of living.In short,to increase people's efficiency is not the primary goal of technological advancement.
Even if the goal of technological improvement is increasing the efficiency as the speaker alleged,I do not believe people will have more leisure time.In short term,increased efficiency is helpful,and we seem have more leisure time.Unfortunately,the fact is not.With increased efficiency,we have to do more work during 8-hour working time,and no boss will cut your working time to sacrifice his own interest.In long term, high efficiency engender unemployment and the redundancy of resource such as food.Imagine that,is an unemployed man with abundant leisure time happy or not.And imagine the scene of the rich are worried about how to deal with the redundancy of food while the poor are starving to death.In short,with the efficiency of people,neither we will have more leisure time nor we will be happy.
As discussed above,I do consent that the primary goal fo technological advancement is not to increase the efficiency of people,and increasing efficiency does not equal to having more leisure time.We human should regard the advancement of technological as a two-edged sword,and we should utilize the bright,salutary side,and avoid the shortcomings.In this way,we have reasons to believe we can make the planet a better place in not-too-distant future.
