Many people say that parents today spend too much time helping and determining their children's future; children should be allowed to make their own choice.

In this ages, the number of teenage crime is increasing. The amount in this year is 15% higher than previous year's in my nation 2008. The lack of instruction and help by parents, most people speculate, are cited as the main cause. In fact, I think, the insufficiency of consideration resulting from making too little choice by their own should be responsible for this phenomenon. Thus, I insist that children should play a major role in their decision making process.

At top of all that, children being determined what to do in their future are strongly dependent on their parents, which leads to their inability to solve problems by their own in their career and study life. Although the initial consideration of parent is good and caring, their children's overall developments are under ruin. Take the university freshmen for example. In my university, life of most students is a mess. They do not know how to clean their dorms and how to use washing machine because these stuffs are taken over by their moms. It really takes a long time, even a year, for them to get accustomed to their school life. So, being going to start an independent life may be a bad news for someone taken after all the time.

In addition, parent who cannot fully understand their children's needs and desires would make false decisions for their children. People under such situation will lose their passion for life. The experience of my friend could prove this. It was the time when he selected which subject to major. He loves Finance, whereas he was forced to major in Education by his parents, because his parents want him to be a teacher. Since he is not interested in this subject, he gets low grades in most of his courses and eventually he is addicted to online games to find comforts. Therefore, I believe someone's future should be determined by himself or herself instead of his or her parents.

In conclusion, making decisions are equivalent to determining one's future. Due to its importance, teenagers should be get involved in it and make the final choice. Though sometimes teens will have limited knowledge, this experience outweighs risk.

Topic: students are more influenced by their teachers than their friends.

University is the place where professors give lecture to us and we can make a lot of friends. Most of us would like to approve that we are more influenced by our teachers, because they give us essential academic knowledge. However, I insist that it is our friends in university teach us most.

First, teachers give an introduction to one field, and we always deepen our understanding by sharing our thoughts and discussing with our friends. The latter form of learning is more vital and practical for our learning process and examination performance. For example, someone likes to prepare his or her mid-term and final exam by oneself, but the other would like to prepare in groups. According to my observations, among the students who attend every course on time, the students in group study would get better result than those prefer to study alone. Thus, I insist that our friends would influence our study performance in a different way.

On top of that, our social behaviors are cultivated when we interact with our friends instead of teachers because most of our time, we get along with our friends. Like me, apart from the course, I have to do some research programs and group presentations with my friends, which occupy most of my spare time. By doing so, I get many useful communication and cooperation skills from my friends, like don't interrupt others talk even though I am urging express my opinion. It teaches me how to respect others and maintain a peaceful discussion atmosphere. And it is essential for my work life and these skills we cannot acquire from teachers. Therefore, friends influence us in more than one way.  

In conclusion, the effect of friends on us outweighs the effect of our teachers, because friends shaping not only our structure of our knowledge but also our overall personality. The way we interact with our friend will affect the way we perform in our later working life, thus we have to realize the effect on us and try to avoid some bad effects.

TPO 16： The best way to travel is in a group led by a tour guide

Travel is a fantastic activity allowing people to relax their mind and have a nice time with their family. However, group traveling led by a tour guide becomes a debatable topic. Someone would come up with their experiences of being cheated by their tour guides, but I still insist that a tour guide is essential for us to explore a new world.

To begin with, language is a major concern when we travel abroad. Although English is world-wide spread, people in some places, like Japan, are unlikely to communicate with us in English. In this case, a tour guide who knows how to speak Japanese seems so important and critical, especially when we have to pay a visit to some local and small villages to find something taste unique and delicious. What's more, one of my friends has been to French alone, and he said that he did not know how to get to some places since he cannot read French. Thus he only paid a visit to two places in four days’ trip. So having a local person accompany with us during tour could leads us to more places we want.     

In addition, group tour can result in a scale effects which means we can spend less on hotels and tickets due to some policies for group discount. And the tour guide is the one who is good at making use of these policies. For example, I have been to Hong Kong and found that if I follow a tour team, I could save 50% of hotel and transportation expense, about 500 Hong Kong dollars. And the quality of that hotel is comfortable. Therefore, I hold the idea that a group and a tour guide is the best combination in enjoying the group discount.

In a word, I points out that the popularity of group travel with a tour guide is rooted at the inability to speak a local language and the huge discount caused by scale effect. And I think it is the best way to travel, especially travel abroad.

TPO 17：Most advertisements make products seem much better than they really are

In the advertisements, candies look like more delicious and Cola seems have less sugar. These are fantastic features of products that every consumer would like to buy. In someone's eyes, they would like to think that these features do not exist, and firms are trying to attracting attentions by these means. But, in my point of view, I would like to hold the idea that these characteristics are convincing and believable.

To begin with, it is reasonable that corporations tend to maximize their profits by innovating and inventing new products. Since the products we consume now are not so perfect, people would be worried about their weight when enjoying soft drinks. Therefore, if a company invents a kind of drink possessing low level of sugar, even zero sugar, without changing the flavor, this company will definitely have a bright future. In a word, in order to win in this highly competitive environment, firms have the incentives and abilities to achieve what they say in advertisements.

Furthermore, feedback effect would constrain a company's actions. Once customers buy something being overstated in advertisement, they will never consume this product and products of this firm. So the cost of overstatement in advertisements is so huge that could make a firm go into bankruptcy. On the other hand, a successful company always makes use of customers’ feedback. Apple is the company that is good at gaining positive feedback from their clients. At first sight of IPhone’s advertisement, many people will cast doubt on the convenience it provides. But the truth is that Apple cultivates a load of IPhone fans by keeping its seemingly unbelievable promise as what advertisement says. Thus, it is good for a company to make products to be what they really are.

In conclusion, firms try to make their products perfect and more attractive to consumers by a reasonable and convincing advertisement. There seems no benefit for a corporation to overstate their products, and if they do, the following loss certainly outweighs the current gains. So I strongly believe that firms will make their advertisements true.

TPO 16：In order to become financial responsible adults, children should learn to manage their own money at young age.

Many parents points out that it is good for a child to manage their own money in their young ages, because they thinks that the experience of allocating money on their own is essential for children's future financial plan. But, in my opinion, there are some limitations underlying this proposal.

Firstly, the aims that children try to maximize are different from those of adults. Children do not have to worry about life burdens and work pressures, so they just head for current entertainment and satisfaction. Children in their 6 may want a toy and in their teenage they would urge for video games or gorgeous clothes. The ultimate purpose is purchasing something to meet their needs. However, when they grow to adult and have a family, the have to make decision about what proportion of income should save in order to afford a house and provide their children with fine education. So, the self-management of money in children's early age could encourage their desire for self-entertainment which is undesirable and unnecessary for future financial planning.

In addition, our parents are another source that makes this proposal less attractive. Children's income are depends on their parents preference instead of their performance in some aspects. The sharply fluctuation and unprediction of income is not the case in their later career life. I would receive 100 dollar in this month, but in next month, I would get nothing, because maybe I have no need for extra money. This is the situation of mine. As we all know, the unpredictive income makes the management of money useful less and unrealistic, thus children could conclude few practical lessons that assist one to become financial responsible adult from these processes.

In conclusion, it is hard to simulate an actual financial decision environment for our children, because we are family relationship instead of boss and employer. And I consider that the most efficient way to cultivate children's financial responsibility is that children should get involved in our parents' decision making process. Thus I disagree with the statement in the topic.
