Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
The only way government can do to energy conservation is to increase the price of gasoline and electricity.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.


Nowadays, gasoline and electricity are widely used in many aspects of our lives as two essential sources of energy; however, companying the prevalent use is always the endless waste of them. To be honest, it is necessary for the government to take some measures to protect their scarce energy, but there is no evidence supporting that the increase the price of gasoline and electricity is the only choice for the government.

Faced with the severe situation of energy shortage, there are many available advices aimed at ordinary people for the government to take. First, it can urge people to take buses or ride bicycles when going out instead of using private automobiles, in order to cut down the amount of utilizes of gasoline. Second, the government can release a series of public advertisements to remind people of putting off such appliances as light bulbs, computers and TVs immediately after using them. The government has the duty to let people that when they enjoy the comfort and convenience brought by different energy, it is a responsible behavior to take some consideration to their country’s serious energy condition.

As for big companies, the government should help them to renew their technology to make the usage of gasoline and electricity more efficiently. Because companies use a lot of energy to keep machines run and they undertake the responsibilities for leading economy and society to make progress, so it’s not wise to improve the prices of gasoline and electricity to make loads on them. Instead, with the help of new technology, companies can not only run normally but also make saves energy. What’s more, government can give award to the company which saves the energy.

As we all know, although without increasing the prices of gasoline and electricity might give a illusion on the public that our country has so much energy that they can waste them, some people and companies are indeed sensitive to a slight increase in the prices of gasoline and electricity, so improving the prices of them might be a good choice in some situations. But, if the government only took that way to energy conservation, the whole country would plunge into endless indignation. And it would be even worse that the society would be unstable, making incredible destructions to the country.

So I am sure that besides improving the prices of gasoline and electricity, there are some other approaches to protect energy. And people and companies should understand the purpose of the government, and take actions to support it. After all, all of them would get benefit from their behaviors.
