[1st day]
Many parts of the world are losing important natural resources, such as forests, animals, or clean water. Choose one resource that is disappearing and explain why it needs to be saved. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

With more and more trees being cut down for different purposes, the forests are disappearing in a higher speed than ever before. And the disappearance of the forests causes a lot of problems as follows.

First of all, as forests disappears the quality of air deteriorates gradually. As we know, the forests are the lungs of the earth. They can absorb the harmful gases produced by factories and cars and therefore clean the air, which is very important in the cities where cars and factories give out tons of dangerous gases every day. Besides, forests can absorb carbon dioxide and release large amount of oxygen in the meantime. Without forests, the concentration of the carbon dioxide will be much higher and may cause people uncomfortable or even become sick. Since forests have such two functions, it is no doubt that the quality of the air deteriorates as they diappear.

Second, the disappearance of the forests reduce the humidity of the air and resultantly cause some relevant problems. Since the trees in the forests can absorb water from deep soil and release the water in the form of water vapor into the air, the forests help keep air's humidity. If forests disappear, the air will be much drier and sandstorms are more likely to happen, which may cause some allergic people to have relevant diseases such as rhinitis and so on. What's more, forests can keep water in the soil and hence prevent soil from being washed away by the rain. This is significant when a rainstorm comes because the soil washed away by the rain may cause terrible disasters. For example, the houses located on the foot of the mountain may be buried by the soil washed away by the water from the mountain.

Last but not least, the disappearance of the forests break the balance of the ecosystem. Since many wild animals live in forests, if forests disappear, these animals are likely to become extinct. Once the diversity of the species is destroyed, the balance of the ecosystem is broken and many problems arise. That will be a disaster for human beings.

In short, the disappearance of the forests can cause serious problems.

[2nd day]
A company has announced that it wishes to build a large factory near our community. Some people approve of the plan while others hold the opposite opinion. I agree that a large factory can bring us many benefits and the problems it may cause can be controlled well if we take some proper measures. Therefore, I believe it is a wise decision to accept the plan.

First and foremost, the factory planned to be built can provide lots of positions and help many out-of-job people regain the chance to work, which is of great significance since in the present it is really difficult to find a job even if you are a university graduate student. As far as I know, nearly one-third of the university graduate students in our community are facing the problem to find a job and if a factory is built nearby, they can try to apply a position there.

Another reason that I approve of building of the factory is that the factory is sure to promote the development of the local economy. For example, since there will be many people working in the factory, it is reasonable to assume that many of these people will have meals or make purchase of goods near the factory, therefore some restaurants and shopping malls may appear to satisfied the needs. And similarly, some drugstores, hospitals, beer bars may appear as well. All of them contribute to the development of the local economy.

Despite the above two benefits that the factory can bring, some people are still worried about it. They argue that the factory may cause noise and pollution. In my opinion, whether the factory cause noise and pollution does not depend mainly on the management. If the manager of the factory take the noise and pollution seriously, the noise and pollution can be reduced to the least extent. So just as we cannot eat nothing because of the worry about the quality of the food, what we need to do is not oppose the plan to build the factory just because of the potential threat it may cause but conduct an agreement with the factory manager to ensure that the noise and pollution can be controlled well. In this case, our rights can be protected and the economy can be promoted as well.

In a word, I approve to build a large factory near our community because it can provide working positions and promote the local economy. And meanwhile the problems it may cause should not be overlooked.

[3rd day]
Some people say that advertising encourages us to buy things that we really do not need. Others say that advertisements tell us about new products that may improve our lives. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

With the development of the economy, the number of the advertisements is increasing rapidly. As a result, some people complain that the advertising encourages us to buy things that we really do not need. However, in my opinions, the advertisements offer lots of information about new products that may improve our lives and they make our lives more convenient and efficient. The reasons are as follows.

First of all, we may not know lots of new products without the advertisements. Take one of my experiences of purchasing my laptop as an example. The brand of my laptop is Lenovo. I did not know it until I watched an advertisement on TV. Being attracted by what the advertisement said, I became interested in the laptop and then searched the internet for further information. After enough consideration, I bought it. Up to today the laptop has accompanied me for over four years and the quality of it is really excellent! Now suppose that I did not watch the advertisement at that time, there was high possibility that I bought a laptop not as good as the one I possess now for lack of the relevant information. So we see the advertisements offer us useful information in an efficient way.

Besides, we can roughly judge the quality of a product by its advertisement sometimes. As we know, most advertisements tend to show or even exaggerate the advantages of the products. Therefore, we can roughly get some information of the advantages of a product through its advertisement. Maybe you will argue that we may get the wrong information since we may be misled by the exaggeration in the advertisements. That is true. This method cannot help us judge the quality of a particular product accurately, but it assists us to make the preliminary judgment, which is also meaningful because it can save our time sometimes. For instance, provided that the advertisement of a certain brand of computer says that the capacity of the hard disk is 100 GB, there is no need to search further information about it if you need a computer with a larger-capacity hard disk.

In the discussion above, we have seen that the advertisement can provide us with information on new products and some relevant references we can use when we judge the quality of the product. However, someone may argue that the advertising usually encourages us to buy things that we really do not need since the words used in the advertisements are often persuasive. But in my perspective, whether you are persuaded into buying something that you do not really need depend mostly on whether you are a rational person. If you treat what an advertisement says in an objective way and make proper judgement of the product's quality, it is not likely that you are persuaded into buying something that you do not really need.

In sum, the advertisements offer us plenty of information about new products and make our lives much better and more convenient. However, we should bear in mind that we should treat what an advertisement says rationally and keep us from being encouraged to buying what we do not need.

Some famous athletes and entertainers earn millions of dollars every year. Do you think these people deserve such high salaries? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

It seems to be a common phenomenon that some famous athletes and entertainers earn millions of dollar every year, much more than the salary of most people in other fields. Some people say that it is quite normal since they gain their money by their efforts. However, in my perspective, it is not natural and not fair for them to earn much more money than most people in other fields. The reasons are as follows.

First of all, the fact that famous athletes and entertainers earn so much money is unfair to people in other fields since many people in other fields pay as many as or even more efforts than those famous athletes and entertainers while their income is much less. It seems that these famous athletes and entertainers earn so much just because of their fame, which, I think, is not fair to those who work hard without being known to the ordinary people. As we know, some scientists, artists, teachers and farmers work much harder than those famous athletes and entertainers. Why don't they deserve the same amount of income as that of those famous athletes and entertainers?

Another reason, which is more important, is that this strange phenomenon may mislead some young people when making their career choices. Tempted by the high income, some young people may choose athletes and entertainers as their career without caring whether they are suitable and whether they are really interested in. And then many of them may find that the road is not as easy as they once thought. Therefore they may get unhappy and disappointed or even abandon themselves for lack of their dreams. This is, obviously, not a happy ending since they can do better if they do what they are talented for or truly interested in. Besides, since the famous athletes can earn so much money, some young people may be not willing to do other ordinary but meaningful jobs. This is terrible for the whole society because the normal operation of a society is based on the hard work from people in different fields. Suppose that all farmers stop working because they do not tolerate the low income, what will our society be? So it is wise to encourage more young people to do meaningful jobs to make what they can to contribute to the society, even if the income is not very high. Paying too much money to those famous athletes and entertainers is not good from this aspect.

As stated in the previous two paragraphs, these famous athletes and entertainers do not deserve such a high income. But we cannot neglect what they do for us as well. In fact, they make great efforts to become successful and they win good reputation for our country. They should be treated as equally as excellent people in other fields but not more.
