Math本科转专业申Econ.PhD求定位...

这不好说，stat top 5应该没问题，但是math top 5难得多，清华也不是年年都能有。不过随着丘成桐的影响，今年申请是井喷了一下，刷了好几个harvard,，比之前n年加起来还多（按说往年，清华去top 10都不多），估计从今年开始，清华进harvard 要容易多了，但是其他几个top 5实在还是难说（我知道一个进了s的，但是他是有s内部的牛腿）。而且不知道lz的方向是什么，harvard math基本没有分析和概率，他们应该只招几何，袋鼠，拓扑方向的。

lz应该重点试试stanford和princeton，这两所还是对天朝本科稍微友好的。我感觉princeton是天朝本科最多的。。不过这几年princeton的placement真是烂出翔来

gsb下面的econ(譬如stern,stanford,booth)，如果没有推荐信，希望很小。

stanford gsb经常都有招ccer的，特别是女生。。　但是gsb很严格，second year paper之类的会筛人，貌似前几年中国人因为second paper(包括finance方向）被踢了好几个。。

1 Qinghua Math Top2?... first heart,,, any way you are already too strong in your peers   but not necessarily within econ aply group
感觉楼主没必要申请econ 申请mathematics or stat   top five 随便申请 而且funding很好
就算基础数学 以后做做 bio stat or acturial sci 或者 financial math的话以后钱会很多 生活比tenure prof.还有保障
plus   math is black and white.... econ is a chaos too many factors including verbal skills

2. 申请econ 的话其实前十有一定难度   you have entry level econ courses    no recommendation to rely on and no research experience
most of your competitors are from Ivy or Liberal Arts College   they can totally enter top school even no real analysis
Think about the accounting of ad com    do they rely on your transcript or they rely on a strong recommendation from maybe journal editors?

Econ is Club, social network is important    especially for top schools because they are in the center of the universe

3 if you insist,,,two ways,,,, try some moderate schools from 10-30     do some research carefully on their concentration.

才学过几天经济学就能号称真心喜欢。转research的人多了。Romer不算高宏。看stokey-lucas和RMT。
因为你是数学背景，数学教授的推荐信还是会有点用的，而且是必要的，因为他能evaluate your potential。
你的分数够高，随便申吧。
看样子lz是清华或者北大的？联系在北美的低年级PhD问问吧（高年级的估计懒得折腾）。

听说今年stanford一些hard science的nb的本科也要申econ/fin phd，估计top10会很激烈。
你可以申LSE master和math phd保底。John Zhu这样的math phd也可以place进finance。
