Paolo di Canio denied Manchester City their first win in 13 matches with a late goal to earn Charlton a point.
Di Canio was quickest to the loose ball and slammed it home after David Seaman had saved his penalty.

The Italian had earlier missed two good chances while Seaman had saved an effort from Scott Parker.

Robbie Fowler had put City ahead when the ball fell to him after Nicolas Anelka had evaded three challenges to charge into the visitors' penalty area.

City went into the game without a win since 1 November.

They were on the offensive from kick-off with Fowler setting up Anelka but Matt Holland slid in to deny the Frenchman.

Anelka was presented with an even better chance when Paul Bosvelt put him through on goal but he took too many touches and Radostin Kishishev prevented him from a shooting opportunity.

Charlton responded and Jason Euell and Jonatan Johansson combined to set up Di Canio but he dragged his shot wide.

The visitors began to get the upper hand and two superbly-timed interventions from Richard Dunne snuffed out a couple of dangerous-looking attacks.

Charlton were denied what appeared to be a certain penalty when Dunne appeared to haul Johansson back as the Finnish international tried to latch onto a long ball.

But after withstanding some severe pressure, City rallied to take the lead.

Anelka did all the hard work, evading Euell, Hermann Hreidarsson and Mark Fish as his mazy dribble took him into the area.

His run was eventually stopped by Chris Perry but the loose ball looped up and Fowler immediately volleyed it into the net.

Parker should have got Charlton back on level terms when Di Canio angled a Kishishev's pass into the midfielder's path but Seaman produced an excellent low save.

  Great! We are now into our third month without a win! Can we play away for the rest of the season!?

The midfielder then returned the favour by releasing Di Canio, but he could not keep a difficult volley down.

Trevor Sinclair was inches wide with a low drive at the other end after Fowler had flicked an Antoine Sibierski cross into his path.

City looked the more likely to add to the score and Anelka rasped a 25-yard effort wide.

But under-pressure manager Kevin Keegan could barely believe it when Sylvain Distin conceded a free-kick midway inside his own half six minutes from time.

Kishishev swung it in and it evaded all the heads, bounced onto Joey Barton's hand and the penalty was awarded.

Seaman beat out Di Canio's spot-kick only for the Italian to tap the follow-up into an empty net to continue City's alarming slump.

Everton delivered a blow to Arsenal's title ambitions as Tomasz Radzinski snatched a hard-earned point.
Kanu's first-half goal ensured Arsene Wenger's side maintained their unbeaten start to the league season after a stormy Goodison Park encounter.

But Radzinski struck with 15 minutes left to level for Everton after a mistake by Arsenal's Ashley Cole.

Arsenal had chances of their own to snatch victory, but that would have been harsh on David Moyes' men.


Everton boss Moyes opted for an attacking formation, with influential midfielder Thomas Gravesen ruled out with a knee injury.

Rooney joined Duncan Ferguson and Radzinski as Everton attempted to stop Arsenal's Premiership bandwagon in its tracks.

And Rooney was involved as Everton almost broke the deadlock after 16 minutes, when his corner unwittingly rebounded off Kevin Kilbane and was scrambled off the line by Cole.

Kolo Toure was left limping as tackles flew in, and despite struggling on, he was replaced by Lauren in the 21st minute.

Arsenal survived a spell of pressure and went ahead eight minutes later through Kanu.

Thierry Henry slipped the ball through a square, slow back line and the Nigerian was on to it in a flash to slip round Martyn and slide home his first league goal of the season.

But Rooney wasted a glorious chance to equalise seven minutes before half-itime when he somehow headed wide from six yards from a perfect Kilbane cross.

Everton needed to exert more control in midfield, and it was no surprise when Li Tie was replaced by Tobias Linderoth at the start of the second half.

And Rooney almost made up for his earlier miss when, after Ray Parlour fouled Kilbane and Freddie Ljungberg had been booked for dissent, the teenager saw his free-kick brilliantly saved by Jens Lehmann.

Henry was threatening to catch Everton on the break with his lightning pace, and twice he almost created the chances to double Arsenal's advantage.

And with 20 minutes remaining, Everton sent on Francis Jeffers, on loan from Arsenal for the season, for the injured Kilbane.

Jeffers was involved as Everton deservedly equalised after 75 minutes.

He pounced on an error by Cole, and when Lehmann saved his shot Radzinski stretched to score.
