今天ben老师yy讲GRE logic，收获很大，对逻辑单题和argument写作都有很大帮助，非常感谢:lol
但是还有很多需要消化，最困扰我的就是关于对background information的处理。比如今天的一道例题

The folktale that claims that a rattlesnake's age can be determined from the number of sections in its rattle is false, but only because the rattles are brittle and sometimes partially or completely break off. So if they were not so brittle, one could reliably determine a rattlesnake's age simply from the number of sections in its rattle, because one new section is formed each time a rattlesnake molts.

在这个argument中，conclusion是“one could reliably determine a rattlesnake's age simply from the number of sections in its rattle”，其premise为“their rattles are not so brittle”和“one new section is formed each time a rattlesnake molts”。从P→C的gap是“the number of sections reflects the age of rattlesnake”。而“The folktale that claims that a rattlesnake's age can be determined from the number of sections in its rattle is false, but only because the rattles are brittle and sometimes partially or completely break off.”则是background information，是用来解释premise“the rattles are not so brittle”的，因此在分析的时候可以不用管，只要关注从P→C的过程。
但是，如果我把这个argument这样说

The claim that one could reliably determine a rattlesnake's age simply from the number of sections in its rattle is true not because one new section is formed each time a rattlesnake molts, but only because their rattles are not so brittle. So if their rattles were brittle, then the folktale that claims that a rattlesnake's age can be determined from the number of sections in its rattle is false, because the brittles sometimes partially or completely break off.

这样，conclusion是“the folktale that claims that a rattlesankes's age can be determined from the number of sections in its rattle is false”，premise是“their rattles are brittle”和“their brittles sometimes partially or completely break off”
理论上这个argument应该是有问题的，它应该无法通过therefore test——but I'm not sure how a ‘therefore test’works？？？
还是说，在第一个argument里面，我们可以从“The claim that we can determine bla bla bla is true”推出“The folktale is false”。而在第二个argument里面，我们无法从“The folktale is false”推出“The claim that we can determine bla bla bla is true”。因为“The folktale is false”只需要“rattles are brittle”一个条件,“new section forms”与否与它无关；而“The claim that we can determine bla bla bla is true”除了需要“rattles are brittle”还需要“a new section forms everytime a rattlesanke molts”，所以在第二个argument里面的“The claim that one could reliably determine a rattlesnake's age simply from the number of sections in its rattle is true not because one new section is formed each time a rattlesnake molts”的说法是错的？？？
不知道我有没有将我的问题表达清楚，我发现我越想越把自己绕进去了
