Issue 13 第一次尝试，有一些疑惑希望能解答下（题目+提纲+文章）

刚刚写完第一篇issue，有点迷茫：
1. 因为我采用的分类讨论的结构，在每个类别里再正负讨论，让我不知道该怎么写自己的thesis。最后我确定的是部分同意，但是在需要在不同情况下分别讨论它的利弊。不知道这样能不能算是题目所要求的position？
2. 因为自己本身的语言能力，整篇issue的用词比较简单，而且用法不一定准确；长句的结构我也不确定何不合理；有比较多的重复的phrase比如couses outside the field of study。不知道这样的语言会不会应该考试的评分？

13、Universities should require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.

提纲：
   * whether University should require students to take a variety of course outside their field of study should be considered different courses that the students are in, namely Science and Engineering, Social Science, and Art.
   * Science and Engineering:
      * +
         * broaden the knowledge-release too specialization,
         * relax from the boredom of academic study and maintain interest
      *  -
         * shorten the time spent on the main major,
         * financial burden for poor student

   * Social Science:

         * learning from other industry can help better understand the ideal in the own course. e.g. government policy on vehicle industry,

         * the lack of prophetical skill e.g. math prevent from learning well

   * Art:

         * courses outside the study may inspire in creative production in own course (the beauty of universe),

         * specialized art school like music college may be unable to offer such course

According to the title of statement, the speaker claims that the requirement of taking a variety of courses outside the own field of study for every student is necessary for university in the modern society. I partly agree with is the speaker’s idea. However, this point of view fails to analyze the issue’s complexity in a detailed extent. Whether the university should do so, in my perspective, should be considered about different fields students are in, including science and engineering, social science, and art.

In the field of science and engineering, learning courses outside the major have both benefit and drawback. For benefit reasons, taking these courses can broaden the knowledge of the science and engineering student. Student in this field usually specialize in one specific area of study, which narrow their horizon in aspects such as literature and economics. In addition, in the study of science and engineering, most students are under great pressure from coursework, research or exam. Courses like music may help them to take a break in tiring study everyday. However, there is still some drawback for science and engineering student to learn the extra courses. Firstly, some one may argue that extra courses learning will cut the time spent in the major study, and then affect the result of final study outcome. Secondly, due to the fact that compared with other field like business and law, there are more students in poor financial situation in science and engineering, the extra tuition fee for extra course may aggravate the financial burden on these students, leading them into harsher life condition. Therefore, a variety of study outside the field does have the good effect on science and engineering students, while it should be based that the spare time and enough financial support is guaranteed.

For students in social science, taking a variety of courses outside the field of study generally has positive influence. The study in other field can somehow improve the understanding and analysis in the major course. For example, if business student is going the analyze the market of automobiles in certain nation, courses associate with design and manufacture of automobiles may help him or her look into the industry and therefore make better judgment in the study. However, because of the subject limit of the social science students, the shortage of professional skill such as mathematics may impede them from getting satisfied performance in courses like engineering.

Unlike the students from science, engineering and social science, studying the course outside the field for art student is another issue needed to be discussed. Art student in the field like literature and painting, usually need inspiration to create their unique product. Other field of study can expand their mind to capture more creative ideas. For instance, studying the universe and appreciate its beauty may inspire a painting student to produce works related to it. Nevertheless, it should be considered that not all the art school can provide such courses. A music college may only offer the course in field of music, excluding any course like business and engineering.

In sum, I agree partially with the statement that University should require students to take a variety of courses outside the student’s field of study. The benefit includes broadening the knowledge, improving major study and inspiring ideas based on which flied the students are in.  The drawback includes increasing the burden of study, student’s financial pressure, and the limit of school itself. Therefore, the correctness of the claim should be discussed in the specific situation.
