issue171 “People who pursue their own intellectual interests for purely personal reasons are more likely to benefit the rest of the world than are people who try to act for the public good.”

The issue on the purpose of individual strife raises enough dust to argue. Current wisdom says that personal interest seemingly incenses more achievement of an individual than thinking for public good does. The problem with this claim is that it ignores the intrinsic relationship between two, for me, both factors to evoke people’s success cannot be separated manually as the evidence shows below.

Above all, no matter how success are gained, how well the achievement might be, personal interests is a premise to maintain it, a necessity to fulfill one’s goal, therefore a cause to the realization of humane aggregate welfare. Einstein once said (and I paraphrase): “curiosity is the best teacher for further study.” Psychologically, the raise of interests depends on differentiation in characteristics, talents, and capacities among individuals. Interest indicates a “fit” or “suitability” for an individual by nature, and if well guided, a possible or potential prospect for him/her in the specific fields. Emotionally, we human being are the least willing to do what we are forced to. The absence of interests in math turns Chairman Mao down, failing almost every math tests in his student’s time, while the attendance of interests turns 4-year-old Gauss up, standing right beside his father for 3 hours checking his calculation mistakes. Without intellectual interest, the possibility to undertake his/her ambition is leaving to doubt, let alone serving publicly.

Moreover, through centuries, anyone who chases his personal interests seldom conflicts the cherished purpose of serving whole world, only if his/her goal is a good one. Inspired by the interests in theoretical physics, Einstein published his theory of relativist, which also set up brand new stage and sensation for it. If not the question of humane nature, how could Socrates, Plato, Aristotle formed their most profound ideas that dominates Westerners’ ways of thinking even today? Without the existence of intellectual interests, the desire to act for public good would become perished; without the desire to act for public good, the existence of intellectual interests would become pale and vague.

Admittedly, striving purely for his individual interests’ sake instead of the judgment between right and wrong would inevitably leads the opposite way: the causing of catastrophe and evil. Hitler’s ambition to conquer the world seems far stronger than anyone else, but viewed in something like proper perspective, his ambition totally lies in the desire of absolute power, regardless what dreadfulness would cause to people in his chase of interests.

In sum, since two factors should be viewed spontaneously and entirely, no quantitative method can be added to measure which purpose leads more achievement. As far as I am concerned, more important thing is not which one benefits rest of world better, but how we ensure every effort we make is the strife for human benefits.

The issue on the purpose of individual strife(?) raises enough dust to argue. Current wisdom says that personal interest seemingly incenses(”to make more angry”?) more achievement of an individual than thinking for public good does. The problem with this claim is that it ignores the intrinsic relationship between(the) two, for me, both factors(这里的factors最好重申一下) to evoke people’s success cannot be separated manually as the evidence shows below.
开头比较晦涩,立场比较含糊

Above all, no matter how success are(is) gained, how well the achievement might be, personal interests is a premise to maintain it,(另起一句) a necessity to fulfill one’s goal, therefore a cause to the realization of humane aggregate welfare. Emotionally, we human being(beings) are the least willing(这种搭配很别扭,most unwilling) to do what we are forced to. The absence of interests in math turns Chairman Mao down, failing almost every math tests in his student’s time, while the attendance of interests turns 4-year-old Gauss up, standing right beside his father for 3 hours checking his calculation mistakes. Without intellectual interest, the possibility to undertake his/her ambition is leaving to doubt, let alone serving publicly(the public).
很精彩的论证,有理有据,值得怀疑。不过老毛用在这里的感觉怪怪的。

Moreover, through centuries, anyone who chases his personal interests seldom conflicts the cherished purpose of serving (the)whole world, only if his/her goal is a good one. Inspired by the interests in theoretical physics, Einstein published his theory of relativist, which also set up (a)brand new stage and sensation for it(it指谁?). If not the question of humane(human) nature, how could Socrates, Plato, Aristotle formed their most profound ideas that dominates Westerners’ ways of thinking even today? (为什么谈到人性?)Without the existence of intellectual interests, the desire to act for public good would become perished; without the desire to act for public good, the existence of intellectual interests would become pale and vague.
如果有好目标,追求个人兴趣与服务社会是不冲突的->没有个人兴趣,就不会想服务社会->就会让个人兴趣失色。
感觉逻辑有问题

TS里的good应该成为后文的前提

Admittedly, striving purely for his individual interests’ sake instead of the judgment between right and wrong would inevitably leads(lead to) the opposite way: the causing of catastrophe and evil. Hitler’s ambition to conquer the world seems far stronger than anyone else, but viewed in something like proper perspective, his ambition totally lies in the desire of absolute power, regardless(注意词性用法) what dreadfulness would cause(bring about) to people in(as a result of) his chase of interests.

In sum, since two factors should be viewed spontaneously and entirely, no quantitative method can be added to measure which purpose leads more achievement. As far as I am concerned, (the)more important thing is not which one benefits(the) rest of(the)world better, but how we ensure every effort we make is the strife for human benefits.(最后一句没明白)

语言上基础很好,注意长句使用时的成分缺失问题。

思路非常清晰,观点也不错。第二个body部分的论证有点问题。
