Issue 3:
Educational institutions have a responsibility to dissuade students from pursuing fields of study in which they are unlikely to succeed.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.
Students select the fields of study by which kind of standard, which is always under debate with the arising value of education. Popular and well-returned fields may attract numerous students to throw themselves into them. On the other hand, the fields such as History, Literature and Philosophy, which seem unlikely to succeed, have less attraction to the students. I believe that Education Institutions should hold on the position that fields of study cannot be scored by the possibility of to be succeed, which may misdirect teenagers. Each kind of field has the meaning to exist in the long history of human beings.
When we come to the debate about the choice of succeed field or impossible succeed field, we should define the standard of "succeed" in academic study first. Somebody is succeeded in the area of business definitely such as Ma Yun, who is the founder of the Internet Financial in China, achieve the unprecedented success in the business. He set up a new way for businessman to make deal through internet, which makes business to be efficient and convenient in the modern life. His broad horizon in the future development of China and decidedly action makes him to be an idol for teenagers and their parents, and his achievement in technology and finance via the fast broadcast of new media, may encourage the fanaticism in these fields of study. This example can give us a brief definition of succeed, that is making difference in the life of human beings, bringing convenience to the life, and finally, may be the most importantly, getting well-return. No doubt this kind of fields should be recommended by the Education Institutions for the sake of the human, not only for the social progress but also for the benefits students may get from their future career.
We should not criticize for the judgment of academic fields by the standard of salary and popularity, on the contrast, the popularity reflects the talent demand in these fields. In a certain social stage, just as the developing fast speed in modern technology society in China, the building of Internet Finance is one of the most important industries. The booming of an industry need talent investment, so the Education Institutions should institute more students to learn the knowledge of Computer science and Finance. Such reaction doesn't disobey the basic principle of the Economics. When something is in huge demand, the supply will be arose under the institution of the invisible hand of the market. Although education shouldn't be classified as a kind of merchandise, it also follows the market law.
Although some fields of study seem not in current demand, they have the meaning to exist in the world. When I choose the branch of learning, my tutor tell me that I should choose a subject which can make me spare every efforts in it, which can make contribution to the development of the society, which will be the career in my life time. Setting back to the definition of "succeed" in academic study, as what my tutor tells, I should clarify my standard: that is a kind of field which I love and would like to spend my life time on it, and finally my insist on it can help others even make difference to the word. The study on History, can help us recognize the fact of the past and make better decision for the development of the modern society. The directions of the history have the power which cannot be instead, for the reason that it tells the truth no matter it tells something nice or ugly. If it tells us something nice, we will learn how hard they achieve the development and choose to work harder to get better life. If it tells us something ugly, we won't clean it up from our memory, but make it imprinted in our heart and make every effort to make up it. What's more, the ugly memory can help us achieve the further progress in future. That is the meaning to study History, which may seem not well-returned, but has the significance in the development of human society. Definitely concentrating on such field and making contribution in it can be called "succeed".
Bias on each of the two sides is detrimental to our learning for that the standard of succeed in academic study for an organic entity which cannot be absolutely divided. Thus we should fully recognize the potential power of concentrate on one of the fields. Only by making every effort on one field could we make further achievements in the process of learning.
