Topic this week:

What element, in your opinion, truely makes China's future bright?

News Background-------

China's future is bright because the basic tenets of a mature humanitarian society are ingrained in her civilization.

This is something no brutal physical force will ever be able to take away from her, just like the Mongols and Manchus were never able to dislodge the spiritual core from Chinese culture, and in time actually became totally assimilated by it.

Such an assimilative process is in effect going on right now and Anglo societies are mesmerized by the beauty of this spiritual core that they are finding absolutely irresistible.

The only thing they can do is to isolate the Chinese politically, surround them militarily, pester them ideologically, downplay their achievements and denigrate their prospects, while in the process of doing this they are inadvertently being pulled by the same forces that pulled the Mongols and Manchus into the Chinese cultural orbit.

The Chinese are forever patient and confident that their cultural cohesiveness will pull them through anything. They don't think of the past five hundred year as a 'waste of time.' It was simply a temporary diversion in the globalization process in which they are destined to play a significant role.

To put it another way, to the Chinese these foreign cultures are like rocks and theirs is like water. Rocks may look hard and formidable, and water accommodative and pliable.

But throughout the earth's history, no one has ever heard that rocks have eroded water because the covalent hydroxyl bond that forms water is so stable and well nigh unbreakable. It has always been the other way - water has eroded the rocks.

Whistling softly in the dark
Is a better cure than anything
For a confused mind searching for an answer

Whistling loudly enough to drown out that little voice inside your head
Is a better way than any other
To prevent miscommunication of feelings

Whistling quickly for a dog
Is a necessary task
If you wish to be a best friend in return

And whistling a tune all your own
Is the only way
To survive this life in one piece

Whatever rock or water our Chinese culture is, we all have reasons to believe in its bright future, just as its brilliant history. In fact, I don't see the point that when numerous kinds of culture coexist and develop at the same time, it would definitely be destinied that  one form of culture would eventually be replaced or assimulated by another one.
It is at least possible that different cultures, all with its own special history, as well as its overall background, might be co-existing harmoniously. And among this big culture family, Chinese culture would be one of the most brilliant, special one. It is our pride.
It is always great to be at home!!!

Actually, I don't view culture as something so aggressive, especially not for Chinese culture, which is characterized for its extraordinary accommodation and pliability. As our remote ancestors had said, stones of others might be used for jades by us. This is really a tenet we might keep it in mind. Also, history gave an other important lesson for us: the downfallen Qing Dynasty could really find reasons in its highbrow and introverted potentates. The end is their enemies, who had long been looked upon by them, opened their long-locked country entrances by fires and guns. All these could but only tell us one truth, never forget to be open, and never turn blind to the advantages of other cultures. The only to keep prosperous lies in the mutual learning of different cultures.
It is always great to be at home!!!
