题目说的是， the university lecture halls are totally different from the small concert venues (small classroom which is friendly) because of the number of attendance, and this difference is necessary (is incumbent/behooves) for incoming freshmen--they have spent too much time in a friendly space to study, and now they should adapt to the unfriendly environment (the lecture hall) with people who they don't know each other.

也就是说，大学新生必须摆脱高中那种非常亲密的教室环境，熟悉大学里相对陌生的环境。

根据ETS的思路，benefit不是不可以，而是找不到另一个词与其替换之后保持句子原来的意思。is incumbent upon和behooves都是necessary的意思，和benefit还是有很大差异的。
