In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.



Thesis: It is recommended that all parents should volunteer time to their children’s schools because parents can learn more about their kids’ academic performance and social life and infuse their kids with their care; however, it is not desirable to make the recommendation obligatory in consideration of the unintended consequences that might negatively impact the kids economically.

1.        Volunteering at schools can monitor the performance of the kids’ academic performance and social life at school.
   a.        Volunteering can offer the opportunities for parents to communicate with the teachers and classmates of their kids.
   b.        In this way, parents can get a clearer picture about the factors that influence their kids’ growth.
   c.        Also, parents can learn more about their kids’ strengths, weaknesses, achievements and problems so that they can figure out way to improve their development of personality and intelligence.

2.        Volunteering at schools can make kids more directly feel the care from their parents.
Volunteering at school can deliver the kids a message that their parents are willing to be a part of school just like them. Then they will have resonance. Then they will have a feeling of care and support. Especially, many schools organize volunteering jobs that require the cooperation between parents and kids.-Further enhance the feeling of being cared and loved- motivate their performance at school.

3.        The benefits of parental volunteering at schools were obvious; however, the opportunity costs of mandatory parental volunteering at school on family income can impose side effect on the growth of kids from impoverished family. Parents need to focus all day on work to maintain the level of family income to sustain the education of their kids. If they are required to volunteer during the school hours during the day, they might not be able sustain the original family income for their kids’ educationnegatively impact their kids’ growth

4.        (Optional) Some people might argue that the kids from low-income family should also deserve their parents’ care on their school and hence those parents should volunteer at school; however, they can express their care in alternative ways. For example, 1. They can spend time sharing their experience with their kids during the day at school or at work at home. 2. They can talk with their teachers on the phone 3. They can invite their kids’ friend to their home for parties to enhance connection with their kids and learn more about their social circles.
