原题：105) Claim: Imagination is a more valuable asset than experience.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based.

我的思路：将imagination跟experience形成一组对立的概念；分领域分别论述哪一方面更为重要不可一概而论。

讨论后的思路：也是分领域论述的方法。1，大部分人所做的工作都是很普通的、重复性的工作，比如bus driver需要experience contributing to safety record；2，engineer和teacher也是需要积累经验，可以举一些具体的事例；3，少部分人在做creative的工作，比如scientist需要imagination，creativity

规律和方法：虽然scientific research也需要把前人在这个领域所做的研究先全部了解，但如果已经按领域来分类，论述scientist时就不要提到这个点了。

观点：知识比想象力更重要，在政治领域，知识是绝对权威；在艺术和航天领域，想象力是知识的辅助。（艺术作为反面写）
1.政治：心理学知识；历史；
2.航天：数学、物理模型的应用，installations突破维度，需要想象力
3.艺术：对颜色和维度的基本知识的理解

Notes: 40min左右，我试图把开头段最后一句和每段主题句写得更清楚一些。


Being fond of quoting ‘flying with the wings of imaginations’, and regarding of several breakthroughs recently in which people use the power of imagination, some believes that its position is much more preponderant than that of knowledge. However, from my point of view, imagination is obviously less important than knowledge since it can hardly be helpful without the base of knowledge in fields like governing, astrology and arts.

In pure rational field like politic governing, knowledge plays a fundamental role of the system while imagination cannot answer a question like what to do to boost the economy. In order to solve a social issue, say unemployed rate, one can not just sit on the floors in front of the White House, looking up to the sky waiting for a epiphany coming into the mind. In stead, several fields of knowledge are necessary for working out a solution. To understand the reason of the unemployed, people need to link the psychological knowledge with the employers’ consideration, as for providing a further solution they may look back to history seeing whether similar dilemma had been solved. In realistic fields like this, requirements of knowledge overwhelm that of imagination.


Moreover, astronauts find knowledge more essential for their jobs comparing to imaginations. As recently released popular film INSTALLATIONS shows, astronauts in the future fly to somewhere outer space searching for opportunities for human being’s survival. With numerous thesis and studies, they finally find a solution in multi-dimensional world that is far from imaginable distance. In the real world, things go much likely the same—astrological scientists trying hard to imagine what the answer would be, but when they finally get it through logical speculation, no one can acknowledge that is anything but unbidden. Therefore, knowledge is capable of, when utilized for science, going further more than imagination.

Even though imagination is valued significant in certain fields like art, no one can deny that any progress has to be made with the skeleton of basic knowledge. Van Gogh, though had not be educated in formal academic way, could not display any talent if he did not understand how to mix red, blue and yellow into more complicated colors; nor would he finish the Sunflowers or his series of self-portraits without fundamental thesis of dimensions. For fields that viewing imagination as distinguish capability to succeed individuals, we should not ignore the fact that all-sided frame of related knowledge helps them draw mental ideas into real masterpieces.

To sum up, in fields requiring rational thinking, knowledge is much more significant than imagination; in other fields that ask for creativity, as well known words from Einstein that success contains 99% endeavor and 1% talent, making progress means a combination between large amount of knowledge and a sparkling tiny imagination.

In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

Whether imagination comes more important than knowledge in most professions and academic fields is contingent on the types of professions and academic fields. In the profession of fine arts such as painting, imagination is more important than knowledge. However, on the contrary, knowledge is more important than imagination in the professions and academic field of social science. Besides, in the field of engineering science, both imagination and knowledge is equally important.

1.        山水晝大師的的作品注重imagination
2.        Social science 的作品注重Knowledge
3.        工程的作品注重2者

王老師的comment
1.        要評論山水晝, 我們要明白如何imagine 晝家的意境, 才可以了解晝家的思想
2.        Social science work注重empirical date, 所以注重knwoledge

我觉得这里的imagination指的一般意义上的天马行空想象力，而是突破某种固定思维形式的创新。比如上面同学提到的解决失业问题不能靠imagination。但是如果能找到一个例子讲通过某种看来不合常理的办法解决了失业问题，按我看来就可以算是imagination。
