Colleges and universities should require their students to spend at least one semester studying in a foreign country.

Should the colleges and universities require their students to spend at least one semester studying in a foreign country? I confess that going aboard and studying aboard have identifiable benefits for students. However, the speaker’s claim is too optimistic because the speaker fails to take notice of the issues of reality. Indeed, it is not reasonable to require all students to spend at least one semester studying in a foreign country because of the consideration of the ability to manage the tuition fee charged by the overseas institutions and the consideration of the available time of attending schools in foreign countries.

While the discussion is related to the students with financial support, this type of student should be required to spend at least one semester studying in a foreign country. Besides, whether the students should be required to study aboard is also related to the subject that the students are studying.

With the financial support, students can go far away from their home county to study. Though going aboard, students would learn how to be independent individuals. Students would firstly experience flying with air craft. Secondly, students would learn how to manage going to the school from the airport themselves. Thirdly, students would practice the skills of negotiating rental price with the landlord. Besides, students would also gain the further opportunity to explore the foreign culture while compared with the students staying in their home country. Students can make friends with the foreigners and experience the local life personally. As a result, the inter-personal skills and knowledge of the students would be strengthened after going aboard.

Well, it would be beneficial and even necessary to studying abroad for a period of time for students in foreign language and international studies. But for students in medicine and local history, there is no need to studying abroad when are still in colleges.
