------题目------
An individual's greatness cannot be judged objectively by his or her contemporaries; the most objective evaluators of a person's greatness are people who belong to a later time.
------正文------

There are many notable figures and great persons in history to whom both their contemporaries and later time people have an appraisement. Sometimes these appraisements conicide with each other, sometimes they differ greatly and even are contradictory and totally disparate. In my opinion, the later people's evaluation of historic figures has usually proved to be comprehensive and all-round, while the evaluation of their contemporaries is usually partial and incomplete.

An individual's greatness in his comtemporary's eyes are always incomplete for several reasons. First of all,  an individual attracting much attention is sure to be influential or powerful in certain aspects which render them the ability to influence people's minds and opinions. Therefore, the judgment of their contemporary is more or less affected by his power of influence in their society. People will not be able to see clearly or does not have the courage to disclose the dark side of the individual and hence make an impartial evaluation of him. Otherwise, the individual's power and social influence will exert pressure on those who discolse his negative side and may jeopardize the disclosers. It is also possible that the fame and greatness of the individual has overshadowed his otherwise ugly side which people fail to discover, in fact, sometimes people are unwilling to reveal these unhappy matters to the public for the society has accepted the hero or heroine as an positive figure. Alternation of the individual's profile will render society as a whole the feeling of being cheated. Hence,  contemporary people's evaluation a historic figure is always not complete and unjustified, and sometimes, even misleading.

In contrast to their contemporary's evalutaion, people in a later time will not have the psychological or practical burden to truely assess an individual's greatness. They will have much more freedom to better evaluate the individual from different aspects. One case in point is the evaluation of the founder of People's Republic of China-Chairman Mao. Mao is absolutely a great person in that he led the Chinese people for eight years in defending their country against Japanese invasion and won the fianl victory. He is deified after the founding of PRC due to the great contributions he made to Chinese revolution. However, in 1966, Mao lauched an unprecedented Cultural Revolution, which lasted for 10 years and many innocent people died during this ruthless social chaotic period. This fault was not pointed out until 1978 when China decided to adopt open-up policy to develop its industry and economy. It was due to historical reasons and people's mindset at that time that prevent the recognition and publicity of Mao's serious defect in internal policy. Now Chines people can have a comprehensive and impartial  judgment toward this historic figure that has changed Chinese fate and history.

Overall, the greatness of an individual cannot be easily judged because of historical reasons and social mindset. As an old saying goes: time is the touchstone of any beliefs. With the collapse of time, the hidden facts of an individual unknown to people of their times will gradually come out of sea and it provide a solid basis for later people to have a complete understanding of the individual.

Issue 241------题目------
An individual's greatness cannot be judged objectively by his or her contemporaries; the most objective evaluators of a person's greatness are people who belong to a later time.
------正文------

There are many notable figures and great persons(两取其一即可) in history to whom both their contemporaries and later time people have an appraisement.

An individual's greatness in his comtemporary's(contemporary) eyes are always incomplete for several reasons. First of all, an individual attracting much attention is sure to be influential or powerful in certain aspects which render them the ability to influence people's minds and opinions.(有点罗嗦) Therefore, the judgment of their contemporary is more or less affected by his(指代不明) power of influence(influencing) in their society. People will not be able to see clearly or does not have the courage to disclose the dark side of the individual and hence make an impartial evaluation of him. Otherwise,(In the case that) the individual's power and social influence will exert pressure on those who discolse his negative side and may jeopardize the disclosers.

In contrast to their contemporary's evalutaion, people in a later time will not have (will不如改为may) the psychological or practical burden to truely assess an individual's greatness. They will have much more freedom to better evaluate the individual from different aspects. One case in point is the evaluation of the founder of People's Republic of China-Chairman Mao. Mao is absolutely a great person in that he led the Chinese people for eight years in defending their country against Japanese invasion and won the fianl(final) victory. He is deified after the founding of PRC due to the great contributions he made to Chinese revolution. However, in 1966, Mao lauched(launched) an unprecedented Cultural Revolution, which lasted for 10 years and many innocent people died(were persecuted to death如何?) during this ruthless social chaotic period. (前后句缺乏过渡 Although Mao ,in his senectitude, did make some detrimatal policies to chinese citizens,)  This fault was not pointed out(The arbitrary apotheosis was not stopped) until 1978 when China decided to adopt open-up policy to develop its industry and economy. It was due to historical reasons and people's mindset at that time that prevent the recognition and publicity of Mao's serious defect in internal policy. Now Chines(Chinese) people can have a comprehensive and impartial judgment toward this historic figure that has changed Chinese fate and history.

既然说到这里,sen-是个年老的前缀,如senile 也是年老之意;-escent是个时间后缀,如neoscent新生的, prescent出生前的,adolescent青春期的,evanescent短暂的, obsolesecent即将过时的;
嗬嗬,
有复习了一下单词:)
