63)（31/63/67） There is little justification for society to make extraordinary efforts—especially at a great cost in money and jobs—to save endangered animal or plant species.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. Whether it is worthwhile to make extraordinary efforts to save endangered animal or plant species depends on the position of the species in biologic chain and its cultural merit.
If a species is very important in biologic chain, which means its distinction will leads to other species’ distinction, extraordinary efforts should be made to save it. 如果该物种的灭绝会导致生物链受到极大影响，那么人类应该做大量努力拯救该物种，从而实现自然的可持续发展，避免该物种的灭绝引发更大的问题。举例：人类保护青蛙，从而保护青蛙吃虫，蛇吃青蛙这条食物链的完整性，避免蛇的灭绝，也避免虫灾以及庄稼欠收，从而避免饥荒。
If a species is not important in biologic chain but is of great importance in culture, it is also worthwhile to make efforts to protect it.这种有文化意义的动物是一个民族的文化图腾，对于一个民族有很大的文化价值以及精神意义。举例：中国的熊猫，澳大利亚的考拉，澳大利亚的渡渡鸟。
If a species is important neither in biologic chain nor culture, there is little justification for society to make extraordinary efforts to save it. 这种动物的灭绝对于自然界和人类社会影响不大，因此没有必要花很大成本去保护这个物种，此时应该遵从自然规律让该种动物自然灭绝。

Whether it is worthwhile to make extraordinary efforts—especially at a great cost in money and jobs— to save endangered animal or plant species depends on the species’ merit in culture, medical field and science.
If a species is of great importance in culture, it is also worthwhile to make efforts to protect it.原因：经济价值、文化价值、外交价值。举例：大熊猫、考拉
What is more, if a species has medical value, it ia also justifiable to cost a lot in money and jobs to save it.原因：经济价值，可能带来更大的经济效益，促进就业。举例：红豆杉
Finally, the value in science will lead to the protection of an endangered species.原因：无法确定其潜在价值。举例：梭罗、桃花水母。
