132) The following appeared in a letter to the school board in the town of Centerville.
All students should be required to take the driver's education course at Centerville High School. In the past two years, several accidents in and around Centerville have involved teenage drivers. Since a number of parents in Centerville have complained that they are too busy to teach their teenagers to drive, some other instruction is necessary to ensure that these teenagers are safe drivers. Although there are two driving schools in Centerville, parents on a tight budget cannot afford to pay for driving instruction. Therefore an effective and mandatory program sponsored by the high school is the only solution to this serious problem.
Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted.

    The letter argues that Centerville should sponsor an effective and mandatory driving program to ensure that students there are safe drivers because some parents have no time or have a hardship in economy. Well, this argument is based upon a few assumptions, which need to be addressed. Those assumptions would strengthen or weaken this argument.

    The first assumptions which need to be clarified are that it will not cripple Centerville`s educational capacity to spend money in teaching every students to drive and considerable number of parents are in a tight budget. 也许，学校的资金本来就不够多，而学驾驶费用也不低，那么，花钱让每个学生都去学的话，会花费挺多，会影响学校的其他一些项目建设、配备及教学质量。而且，可能一些学生驾驶已经很好了，没有必要参加。并且，可能付不起驾驶学费的家长仅占少数。

    The argument is based on the additional assumptions that there is no other institutions except Centerville to take the responsibility to ensure the students there are safe drivers and there are a great number of parents really have no time to teach their children to drive. 家长没有时间，那么相关的政府部门呢，社会公益机构呢，这些组织对这样的活动比起学校是更专业的，而且，负责学生的学驾驶，并不是学校的主要任务。而且，家长知识敷衍说比较忙，而且，由此抱怨的人可能只占少数。

    The final critical assumption is that those accidents, in and around Centerville, have been caused by students drivers from Centerville in which most students are not good drivers. 也许，发生的事故中并没有学校的学生涉及，就算涉及，可能是学生走在路上被的年轻人开车人给撞了，就算是有学生驾驶车辆涉及事故，可能是因为对方（不是学校的学生）的过错而造成。
