105) Claim: Imagination is a more valuable asset than experience.
Reason: People who lack experience are free to imagine what is possible without the constraints of established habits and attitudes.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based.
I agree partly to the claim that imagination is a quite valuable asset of human being, but remain my reservation on whether it is more precious than experience, for the reason given is not a out of comprehensive consideration, and I will elaborate my opinions below.
It is one of the most distinctive trait of human beings for the endowed ability to imagine, namely, to form images or ideas in mind without sensitive perception from those that have already exist. This may, and already have, help us form ideas to deal with tough issues or create new inventions for better use. The countless fantastic art works and most of the things we are using today, if not all, are the fruits of the fecund soil of imagination. People thought of flying in the sky like the eagles and the birds, and the idea comes up to them that the hot air, which could bring things up, may also bring people to the air, then came the fire balloon. The willingness to save more time and energy by traveling on foor make prehistory people thinking of utilizing the round wheel to carry people from place to place, which is the original form of car.
However, imagination may not be constricted by the knowledge and experiences all the time. It seems that, in some art works, especially when it comes to the works like of the surrealism, artist may struggle to break the constraint of the real object to make some extraordinary break through. But even in these cases, they may structure a distorted clock or frame their images of dreamscapes may consist components of real things, and make adaptations and changes from them. A work that comes from nothing may be regarded as insane or impenetrable, at best.
Moreover, if we move on to think further deeply for the numerous inventions in our lives, it is not difficult to grasp the idea that they may not simply coming out of imagination, but on the basis of a good knowledge backup. Fire balloon may not come out if people don’t know that hot air is inclined to go up and may possibly bring other objects up, cars would not be invented if people do not have the experiences observing that round objects can move much more easier than other shapes. Nearly all the new ideas or inventions may base on knowledges or experience ahead of it, and imagination is exactly a proper tool that can integrate those beforehand information to form new ones. Without knowledge and experiences, imagination may lose a great deal of it’s force.
In conclusion, imagination conceivably may be a great asset of human being that has not only help the emerging and development of nearly all the instruments and objects today, but also been the unlimited sources of creative art works. However, we still discriminate the importance of it with that of experiences and knowledge, as they virtually develop together reciprocally. Imagination may work well when it utilize and integrate the experiences and knowledge which actually form a web of information that imagination relies on.
