Others believe that the most essential quality of an effective leader is the ability to remain consistently committed to particular principles and objectives.

Write a response in which you discuss which view more closely aligns with your own position and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should address both of the views presented.

This issue raises a debate that has long been discussed about what makes a good political leader and how to find a balance between the principle of politics and the real needs of the public. Although it is true that the political life of those statesmen are in the ballots of the public, I do not agree with the opinion that the political leaders should can only yield to the public opinion and abandon their principle. In this assay, I will explore the possible answer to the question from the aspects of responsibility of the political leaders, the characteristics of opinions of the public and what is the most suitable for the development of the country.

Apparently, the political leaders in the democratic society is the agency of the general public, and his/her opinion-at least what they promised at campaign- accord with expectation of the general. Therefore to extent the political life of the political leader and to realize the big blue print of his/her political dream, the political leaders should keep his/her promise and follow the expectation of the general- even if it goes against the principles of the leaders. Although the political leader with some Jacobinical ideas believe that the death penalty should be banned, he/she cannot force to modify the law if the most of the people in the country or state have the opposite opinion. Because if he do so, he will lose the support from the public on more vital issues.

However, to be a good and powerful political leader, he/she must have a clear mind and should realize that the public opinion sometimes do not represent the real needs of its people. I mean, a wise political leaders should know that it is easy for the public opinion to be misled or incited by the mass media or its political enemies. Some opinions, loud as it sound, only represent the interest of part of people while the general public is not aware of it. Just like the example of the Sunflower Student Movement in Taiwan. Most of students in this movement did not aware that they became the chip of the DPP. This movement force the Taiwan government suspended its economic cooperation with the mainland, which might influence the future development of Taiwan.

I believe the best methods to handle this problem properly is well developed political system with clear restrict of public power. Just as America political system. The power of the President, the Congress and the Court is divided. This ensure that the will of the president cannot go without supervised from the public. While the term of the President is four year and it ensure that the President can concentrate on its political policy from a consider long time and earn support from the public in the long term. So a good political system can help to solve this problem between public opinion and the principle of the political leader.

In summary, political leaders should always think for the welfare of the general public and meet their need through the authority of the government. However, they should always what is good for the public or the country and what opinion is assault of the media and its political enemy. The best way to make correct decision is through well-developed political system.

We live in a world where people are allowed to give free speech and dissent. People may like or dislike the policy measures or political leaders simply because of their private judgement or benefits, or, sometimes, because of the change of strategy of national policy to adapt an even changing world. If political leaders were forced to hear all those voices and try to figure out the way how to take measures to manage the country, it would be a mission impossible. To lead a nation, especially a hybrid of culture, race or religion one,  politicians should first firm a firm horizon on the sustainable development of the country and then take a solid steps to fulfill that vision. While fine tuning is allowed, sudden interruption of political policy is less recommended.

It is not unusually for us to find a nations facing the conflicts among races or religion. Again, more than once, we see there are regional wars resulting from the upgrading conflicts among people with different political or religious opinions. It is under this situation, where a firm political objective ,instead of compromising to parties involved, is required to mitigate the conflicts. Usually, a common goal or value and a solid plan that meet the needs of general benefit will help to alleviate the tensions among parties.

Besides as human beings are tend to maximize their own benefits in most of the situation, a society without rational control or reasonable development will soon exhaust its natural resources or leave its underprivileged people unsecured. We can't imagine a country just let its people do whatever they want to survive without considering the non-aggression principles and the co-existence relationship among us and the nature. This justifies why we need government to build progressive taxation systems and social security systems, to name just a few, to tentatively guide people's behavior and redistribute the benefits and advantages our society.

Furthermore, not only do politicians need to balance the development and interest, they also need to make strategic change either to better employ the physical materials, such as changing from a resource intensive country to a labor intensive one, or to cultivate its human resources by leveraging their skills and knowledge. However some people may not want change, especially for those who enjoy the benefit of status qua. Should our political leaders listen to those reluctant to change, how can we build a higher level of social structure?

To sum up, political leaders are facing more challenges when taking measures to manage their countries. While effectiveness is important, but it is not always easy to achieve. When heading on conflicts, balance between short-term development and long-term development and the change or transformation of society, it is the politicians' firm determination and strong will, as well as strategic plan, that help achieve that effectiveness, on the same time, not on the expense of societal equality.
