Topic: There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws.

I am wondering what is the standard referred by the speaker to distinguish just and unjust laws. Does he mean a law is morally just or unjust? If it is so, by judging from moral perspective, I content that it is hard for every social individual to arrive an agreement on which is just and which is not, thus impeding their disobedience and resisting of their own unjust laws from producing any substantial results. Such results of disobedience like achieve a change of national policy, is every rare and can only be achieved though collective hard work instead of fulfillment of individual responsibility.

To begin with, big difference among moral standards prevents us from giving a unified standard to distinguish unjust laws from the others. After all, everyone live in the world has a free will to decide his own belief, his own value, and moral standards are just parts of the former two. It is totally possible that two people living in the same city, studying at the same school, and receiving an identical education, at last choose a different spiritual belief and value, thus holding on moral standards separately. Further, if there are two who have been brought up in different religions, and thus been inculcated with different values, the possibility for them to develop an unlike moral standard is much larger. Therefore, to achieve an identical classification of laws as just and unjust is just a dream of some idealist.

Admittedly, every individual having a conscious of complete citizenship should never forget their social responsibility to obey social rules. But this does not mean the opposite, disobedience and resisting some laws, which he regards as unjust, is always justifiable, not to mention it is a responsibility of every citizen. In fact, if every person who violates a law can always claim that the law he goes against is an unjust one for him, he only take his responsibility to resist and even challenge the unjust law, and then there is no criminal in the world yet. Why should our government still go on budging legislation institutes every year? Why should we not spend such energy and money on addressing more urgent social issues?  From the concept of obeying just laws as a social responsibility of individual, to embrace the disobedience of self-claimed unjust laws as a social responsibility also, is broaden the former commonsense too much.

Besides, when it comes to the dream of some social activists, such as Martin Luther King, who primarily interested in mass disobedience towards morally unjust laws to reform of society, I want to point out it is the fulfillment of collective wise rather than individual responsibility, and this is really a tough work to accomplish. First, to revise unjust laws is a job of legislators, and has little relationship with individuals. Second, to achieve national policy change, relying on an individual is nothing but fantasy. Last, it is also tough for the mass to achieve this goal without enough necessary conditions. As for even King can not ensure us that it is general possible for him to gather a big enough group to protest a specific law, simply because of various reasons, such as people with disagreements on this is an unjust law, people who dare not to confront with the atrocious police, people who live in a scatter pattern and not convenient to be instigated, etc, can not be included. His past partly success due to collective strength and people` s compassion towards what the weak groups suffering more than his special strong character to fulfill his solely responsibility of challenging these unjust laws, not to mention this is not his task at all.

In short, the concept of unjust law is only full of meaning when we consider there are enough of people holding the view of its moral deficiency. So it is not an individual responsibility to accomplish the task of resisting it.
