Thank you for your email and your interest in graduate studies in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo.
Due to the large number of e-mails I receive daily from prospective students, I am unfortunately unable to draft a reply specific to your situation at this time. If you are interested in pursuing graduate studies in my research group, please apply to the ECE department and mention my name in your application. This will make your application easier for me to find in our internal system, and I can evaluate your application at that time. If you believe that my research area might interest you, please look carefully at my web page to learn about my research. You should feel free to download presentation slides and papers. In general, I am more likely to be interested in a student who has taken the time to get some idea of what my research involves, especially if they can explain why they would be well-suited to make contributions in my research group. I generally look for students who have strong mathematical skills.
Admissions to the ECE department at Waterloo are centrally administered, and all applicants must apply first to the department before they can be considered by faculty members for positions as graduate students. Here is the necessary program information for MASc applicants and PhD applicants.
In addition, please be aware that applicants with fellowships are generally more competitive for positions, and that it is always in your best interest to apply for any fellowships for which you are eligible. For Canadian permanent residents, this usually means the OGS/QE-II and NSERC CGS programs; for nonresidents, consider browsing your relevant government funding website.
Best of luck with your application and future studies,
