My name is XXX. I received my bachelor's degree in Hebei University of XXX in 2015. My major was Information and Computing Science, which is an interdisciplinary program of computational mathematics and information technology.

I am currently enrolled at Guangdong University of XXX for a master’s degree in mathematics. My credentials would fit perfectly for a middle school or primary school teacher but I do not have the patience to teach young students and answer their questions. So it is impractical for me to be a teacher and it is hard for me to find other types of job if I only own the techniques of mathematics. At the same time, I find that there are plenty of computer-related jobs in China and employers usually require applicants to have a corresponding degree. Consequently, I need to pursue a degree in computer science.

Because of this reason, I applied and have been admitted into the Master of Science in Applied Computer Science and Society program at the University of XXX. It is a thesis based program. My supervisor would be Prof. XXX, who got his doctor degree from University of XXX. The research topic(s) I will work on is Image Analysis and Recognition via Moment Methods, which requires a strong mathematics and programming background. Image analysis and recognition are branches of machine learning. The program includes four courses about computer science and a research thesis.

The program would last for two years, whereas the corresponding programs offered in China are all three years. So the program saves me a year’s time, I can use this year to make some money and gain a year’s work experience. That’s the reason why I want to study in Canada, rather than in China.

When I graduate from University of XXX in 2020, I hope to work as an artificial intelligence (AI) researcher in Alibaba, Baidu or Tencent, whose employees are usually highly paid. My work experience on thesis would really be a great advantage among applicants, because the AI-related employers usually want their employees to acquire the ability of reading the latest innovative research papers that can be applied to their work.

The excellent work place for me is Beijing, where is the software center of China. What's more, Beijing is near my home, Hebei Province, so I can always see my parents and my younger sister during vacations. Guangzhou and Hangzhou are also nice cities because of low living expenses and many job opportunities.
