It is true that arts can certainly reveal some hidden ideas of a society, since arts stem form life and tend to represent the feeling of people, which is hidden in the heart of human being commonly. For example, the Dove of Peace, which is the image for the Peace Conference, created by Picasso in1950s when World War two ended, is regarded as the symbol of peace and hope for thousands of years. Also, the Statue of Liberty, which is located off the shores of New York, is America's famous symbol of freedom. The Imperial Palace in Beijing China reveals the sovereign authority and dignity possessed by emperor. All of these tell us that work of art has thoughts, which hidden in common people or in a society. Arts can help us know the society clearly.

In addition, it is because that artists, producer of arts, have better perspective and then can see from a higher stance to evaluate the potential needs of people in future. In literary field, for instance, Jules Verne, French writer and pioneer of science fiction, who was known for his famous works, such as Twenty Thousands Leagues Under the Sea (1870), Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), From the Earth to the Moon (1866) and so on. Without Verne there is a strong possibility we would never have romanced ourselves to the Moon. Therefore, to some extent, science fiction reveals the desire of people to detect nature. And it is science fiction that stimulates the inspiration of scientists and make many things, such as Moon landing, the existence of space station, universal utilization of robots and so on, become realities.

Except for revealing the hidden ideas and impulses of a society, another important function of arts is to rich people's spare life. Arts filled with our daily life. And it is arts that make our life more rich and colorful. Everyday we can feel the enjoyment brought from arts. Let us suppose that you go to cinema with your family on a weekend, or listen a euphonious song after a whole day's work, or that you are reading a novel in bed in a raining day, then you can easily understand the enchantment of arts. We cannot imagine what our life would be like without arts.  

Overall, arts can help people better know a society, since they can reveal the hidden ideas and impulses of a society. On the other hand, thanks to arts, we can live a rich and colorful life. Therefore, more emphasis should be put on the arts (painting, music, literature, etc.).
