"A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer"
Does a nation need to require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college or allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer? In my opinion, there should be a middle road that both the same national curriculum and the different academic courses are demanded in today's education. Either of them lack results in education outdated or even disfunctioned.(此句表达的有点费解)
The same national curriculum plays a significant role in keeping the stability of nation. As looking throughout the world, every rich and peaceful nation has a uniform education system which contains the curriculum such as the moral and virtue, the history of the nation and the mother tongue and so on. For instance, the Qin Dynasty in China ended up the breaking up(what?revolution? ) and realize the first unity(first? What meaning?) of China. After the establishment of the dynasty, the King applied a series of policies which includes the same national curriculum, the Confucian learning. In order to the smooth the process of the curriculum, he even burned the books of other learnings. Despite the crucial policies, as a result, the nation became stable and wealthy since the minds of people are controlled. However, the poor nations such as Palestine are often bound with the battles between different races. These are all partial brought by the ununiform ideology and religious and are followed by starvation and disease, ultimately to contabescence. It shows that the same curriculum decides the stability of the nation and, moreover, the stability of the nation is the basis for the development of the nation.(此段基本能表达清楚目的,举例好,但是没有在 same national curriculum and the country development 之间展开辩论与说明理由。)
Secondly, one of the education function before students enter college is to teach them the basic knowledge. Just like constructing a building, only the fixedness of the basis can allow the imagination of architect to create beautiful building. In my nation, the basic mathematics, Chinese, English are the three major basic curriculum for us to take. These curriculums construct a fine basis for us to study other courses, such as physics and biology. Moreover, during the study of these basic curriculum, we can form the correct study skills which is more important in studying in the college.
On the other hand, in the era of rapid technology change and information eruption, different academic courses are must things in education as well. Although the same curriculum links with the stability of the nation, the co-respect and self-preserving of culture are also relative. It calls for the different curriculums. In China, there 55 different minor folks. They have different tradition and culture. Therefore, some schools are founded especially for these folks. The students in these schools not only study the same basic curriculum but also learn the tradition of their own folk. It is meaningful to preserve the diversity of folks. However, in Australia, the nation government prompt to assimilate the culture of aborigines to the modern culture. They once abduct the children of the aborigines to a closed nursery school to teach them the same curriculum. After several years, these children grew up and lost the chance to learn their own culture. It arouse their hatred to the government, especially the white migrant. Therefore, in my eyes, the perfect approach to let a multi-folks nation peaceful is not trying to assimilate either of all but to find the common basic points and let the culture difference existence. It can also applied in education.
Furthermore, the students are in different levels in different aspects, such as intellect. Therefore, their ability to accept the new knowledge is different. Is it efficient for clever students to teach the knowledge which they master at the first sight time and time again? If the answer is "yes", it is certainly the failure of the education. In my middle and senior high school, there exit "excellent classes". In these cases, the students in the classes have the ability to acquire more knowledge besides the basic curriculum. Their interest in some fields is cultivated before they enter college. It is at least not bad for them to understand themselves more and it can supply them with the rung of the ladder to climb to the top of Mountain "Knowlege" in advance. In short, If the totally same curriculum is applied, it is obviously fallacious and disobey the aim of education, cultivating people according to their genius.
In sum, both same national curriculum and different academic courses are important in education. They are not mutual exclusive but can combine with each other. In my opinion, the core curriculum should be the same which includes the moral and value system and so on while the academic curriculum such as arts can be an addition to explore the knowledge field. Only the middle road can take the role of the education to cultivate people effectively and only either of it will result in the imbalance of the society.
