I agree with the statement above insofar as society does encourage people to focus on differences among ideas, individuals, and groups. For my part, however, emphasis on differences does not result that people ignore the meaningful similarities. Further, there are competitions and cooperation in our society, both of which are crucial for individuals and groups to succeed, the former encourage people to concentrate on differences, and meantime, the latter impel people to focus on similarities.

To begin with, the modern society filled with competitions in most realms inspires people to focus on something different from others. With the increasingly accelerating development of specialization and competitions, more and more people begin to pursue the distinctive characteristics, which can distinguish themselves from other and bring more choices for achievements. For example, in NBA, the most famous and attractive professional basketball league matches, everyone who wants to be a star winning audiences and popularities must have at least some kinds of unique skill, differing from other team members and opponents. It is interesting that, if without Jordan's shoot like a rocket, someone even only acquire people's attention by his blur colors or strange styles of hairs. Maybe it is somewhat ridiculous but the intense competitions in this game and the curiosities of audiences require those individual stars to make themselves distinct from others, for the reason that only the distinctive skills could provide them higher achievements and incomes, preventing them from unemployment.

Again, in business, companies are always encouraged to lay emphasis on different products from others. For instance, five years ago, when the market of cell-phone in China, there was a series of competitions among Nokia, Motorola and Erricson. The market research indicated the fact that consumers in China prefer to the special styles rather than the fixed modes. Almost every week at that time, there are the various and updating cell phones appeared in the shop, because these three companies were engaged in the research of updating styles and tried to avoid similar styles to other cell phones. This illustrates the point that groups are also encouraged to focus on difference.

On the other hand, besides competitions, achieving advanced success in such a modern society also requires cooperation among individuals and groups, which impel people to concentrate on meaningful similarities while focusing on apparent differences. The significance of emphasis on similarities lies in optimizing the advantages in combinations of individuals and groups. Consider, the more and more various "group email community "emerging in Internet allure lots of people, who have similar interests, ideas and aims from all over the world, to join and associate with each other. For example, facing the hard geometry questions he/she cannot solve by his/herself, he/she would be inclined to search people who encountered the same problems through certain "group email community", and then, many such "co-worker" on this issue would be united.

Moreover, sometimes cooperation is more important to groups than competition in this modern society, and call for people to focus on similarities instead of differences. To take the case of cell phones as a good example again, to improve the development of cell phone market in China, Erricson and Sony were united on the base of meaningful similarities between them that they were both tended to research the new kind of cell phone with digital camera. As a result, the later cooperation largely enhanced the competitive capacities of products and endowed them lots of profits. In this case, the significance of cooperation inspired people to emphasis on similarities.

In conclusion, there are competitions and cooperation in our modern society, both of which are crucial to the healthy development of society and the advanced achievements of individuals and groups, and call for a deliberate balance in which peoples are encouraged to pay appropriate attention on differences and similarities among ideas, individuals and groups.

To lsd:我的想法是一开始就narrow down题目，因为相同与不同的题目实在太大，我就想如今社会的鼓励人们对相同与不同的注意正是基于社会的两大主题：竞争与合作。所以一直打着相同与不同的旗号来写竞争与合作的必要性，呵呵，感觉偷换了概念。

我觉得相同与不相同的论述虽然范围很广，但是例子还是比较好举的：
1。认识到差异性很重要如认识到文化的差异性才能更好地了解自己的文化（呵呵，好像是一道Issue的论题）；认识到学生之间的差异性老师才会因材施教，等等……
2。当然不能过分强调差异性，那样，人很人之间就没有共同语言了，国家和国家之间就没有共同利益了，不利于大家的发展……
3。认识到事物之间的相似性也很重要，如，认识到知识之间的相似性和联系性会节约我们的时间，提高工作效率……
