It is no doubt that human has a greater ability to think than other animals have, and this is one of the most basic differences between people and other animals. In the years of human history, people are always interested in finding the reasons to the dramatic phenomenon of nature one after another and begin understanding nature little by little. Therefore, after several thousand years, with many people’s careful considerations, the modern technology appears, and it improves the society. Now, some people believe that things do not become more comprehensible, but more complex and mysterious as we acquire more knowledge. However, I could hardly completely agree with this opinion. People are often curious about the mystery, and what they want to know is to understand why it happened. Isaac Newton once said: “only the knowledge can explain the things clearly.” People also realize this fact and they come to do the things for the development of the technology. Just due to the improvement of the technology, the subjects were fractionized and the things become more complex. Take math for example, at first it only had one part called mathematics. Then, it was divided into two subjects, the algebra and the geometry, and it had more subsequent subjects in the continue growing after several centuries such as topology, probability, calculus and so forth. Thus, we can easily see that it becomes more complex, and seems more mysterious to the layman.

However, can we say that it is less comprehensible due to the fact that it has been more complex and more mysterious? Let us see the definition of the word “comprehensible” first. Comprehensible means the capability of being comprehended and comprehend means to grasp the nature, basic, or the significance. Now we know that “comprehensible” is to understand things correctly or more nearly to the truth. Therefore, I think the more the knowledge we have, the better we understand the world. In the Middle Ages Europe, almost all the people hold the opinion that the earth is a plane. They had seen the ship appears gradually when coming closely to the harbor, and they use the other simple theories to explain this phenomenon. At that time, it is difficult for people to recognize the earth is round due to the fact that they do not have enough knowledge to understand the gravity completely. So we can say that they understand the world in a simple, easy, and “understanding” way. But is it more comprehensible? Of course, not, because it contradicts the basic concepts of the word “comprehensible”. They did not understand it in a correct way.

Just as the famous philosopher, Francis Bacon said: “knowledge is power.” With the knowledge, we can know the things more comprehensible although maybe a little complex, but this is what we want more.

To sum up, I think things will become more comprehensible, as we gain more and more knowledge, and our life will be better and better due to the development of the technology. Look at the past, can we predict the weather without the deeper understanding of the meteorology, can we manufacture the cars which can help us a lot in the modern transportation without the better understanding of the mechanism, and can we send the satellite to the universe without knowing the fact that the earth is round? We had already seen the advantages of totally comprehending the events, so we should acquire more knowledge and use it to rebut the bad ideas which can lead people to the wrong way.
