------题目------
Colleges and universities should offer more courses on popular music, film, advertising, and television because contemporary culture has much greater relevance for students than do arts and literature of the past.
------正文------
Popular music, film, advertising, and television which have been said the representations of contemporary culture are more attractive forms to students in colleges and universities today than any other before. Consequently, some people advocate offering more courses on these modern ones rather than traditional arts and literature which are usually set up in curricula in college and universities. In my opinion colleges and universities may need to offer some courses relevant to these popular ones, but those traditional ones are so important for students' development that can not be abandoned.

Admittedly, with science and technology development, more and more active and imaginative forms of representation appear in our daily life, such as popular music, film, advertising, and television, which with the help of electronic technology affect our young students significantly. For example, students always talk about the experience of people in the films and TV shows, sing pop songs and buy things that they see in the advertisement. However, though these may affect our students' daily life very much, they mainly provide recreational opportunities for them, but not, if any, the opportunities for developing their individual abilities, such as personalities, philosophy of lives, values and so on. Moreover, the representation in music, film, advertising and television may embody some contemporary culture but can not be said the culture itself, in that culture contain many complex relationship and never can be represented by only several forms. In another word, to say those fashion are more appropriate than to say those culture. Nevertheless, though the primary task of college and university are cultivate students’ individual abilities and these so-called culture may play little impact on this aspect, because of their indispensable position in students' daily life, colleges and universities may need to offer some courses relevant to these new popular forms for satisfaction of students' interests, for example offering some optional courses, such as the process of a film's making out, which has already been provided in my universities.

On the other hand, arts and literature of the past seem more ignorant by students compared to today' popular ones, however they are very significant for students' future development. Firstly past arts and literature contain much more profound ideas than today's popular ones, which can present students some truth of life. For example, the experiences of characters in some novels may teach students what is the bravery, optimism, and so on, which are essential factors for their successful future lives. Secondly these works have been proved by several generations about their vivid depiction and beautiful language, which bring students aesthetic experience. This kind of aesthetic is totally different from those showed on most TV programs and other forms, which may be more superficial than the presentation in great works. Thirdly these arts and literature of past are resources of our contemporary culture, and there are not definite limit between the old one and the new one, so examining those old cultures will helps us know the trend of culture development and know contemporary culture more deeply.

In a word, popular ones today have much relevance to students in recreational fields in daily life while past arts and literature mainly influence students' individual development. So colleges and universities may need to offer some courses on popular ones but never choose to ignore the past ones. Comparatively, the latter can provide more wealthy things for students' future life, and college and university education should put more attention on them.

Admittedly, with science and technology development, more and more active and imaginative forms of representation appear in our daily life, such as popular music, film, advertising, and television, which with the help of electronic technology affect our young students significantly(这句能否改成which significantly affect our young students with the assistance of modern technology). For example, students always talk about the experience of people in the films and TV shows, sing pop songs and buy things that they see in the advertisement. However, though these may affect our students' daily life very much, they mainly provide recreational opportunities for them(前面是our students,为什么这里用them?), but not, if any, the opportunities for developing their individual abilities(ability似乎欠妥,personality和values不算能力吧?), such as personalities, philosophy of lives, values and so on. Moreover, the representation in music, film, advertising and television may embody some contemporary culture but can not be said the culture itself, in that culture contain many complex relationship and never can be represented by only several forms(Why?能否证明一下?). In another word, to say those fashion are more appropriate than to say those culture.(这部分是不是放到下一段更合适?毕竟这段讨论的是contemporary culture的positive的一面。如果是为后面作铺垫,稍微提一下应该就行了) Nevertheless, though the primary task of colleges and universityies are(is) cultivate(cultivating) students’ individual abilities and these so-called culture may play little impact on this aspect, because of their indispensable position in students' daily life, colleges and universities may need to offer some courses relevant to these new popular forms for satisfaction of students' interests, for example offering some optional courses, such as the process of a film's making out(表达似乎有点怪), which has already been provided in my universities.

On the other hand, arts and literature of the past seem more ignorant(ignored) by students compared to today' popular ones,; however they are very significant for students' future development. Firstly past arts and literature contain much more profound ideas than today's popular ones, which can present students some truth of life. For example, the experiences of characters in some novels may teach students what is the(the可去掉) bravery, optimism, and so on, which are essential factors for their successful future lives(for their future success). Secondly these works have been proved by several generations about their vivid depiction and beautiful language, which bring students aesthetic experience(feelings). This kind of aesthetic is totally different from those showed on most TV programs and other forms, which may be more superficial than the presentation in great works. Thirdly these arts and literature of past are resources of our contemporary culture, and there are not definite limit between the old ones and the new ones, so examining those old cultures(culture) will helps(help) us know the trend of culture development and know(understand) contemporary culture more deeply.

In a word, popular ones today have much relevance to students in recreational fields in daily life while past arts and literature mainly influence students' individual development. So colleges and universities may need to offer some courses on popular ones but never choose to ignore the past ones. Comparatively, the latter can provide more wealthy things for students' future life, and college and university education should put more attention(emphasis) on them.
整体感觉不错,我水平比较菜,只能改改表达上的小失误,见谅。楼主是限时的吗?能写这么多字,自愧不如!希望以后多交流! :)
