40,Scholars and researchers should not be concerned with whether their work makes a contribution to the larger society. It is more important that they pursue their individual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic those interests may seem.

Which aspect should scholars and researchers be concerned with?The contribution their work makes to the larger society or the way they pursue their individual interests?Some people maitain that the latter is more important,however,in my point of view,it is wiser to pay attention to not only what they have contributed to the larger society but also their pursuing their individual interests,no matter how unusual or idiosyncratic those interests may seem.

On the one hand,the contribution to the society that made by scholars and researchers should be concerned,since what the people throughout the world fix their attention to, to some extent,leads the studying directions of the scholars and researchers.Take the Nobel,one of the highest prize to the scientists for example,as it is known to all that every year,when the time of Nobel Prize comes,the media will make a intensively coverage to report the owners,including their outstanding complishment,to which almost all the Scholars around the world will pay close attention,my professor as well.As a result,what they had studied is more acquainted to the pubic thereby those who want to acheive a great success in the field of science will be likely to concertrate on a certain region,which will,at the same time,make a outstanding contribution to the society and thereby accelerate the speed of the society progress.

On the other hand,scholars and reserchers's puesuing their individual interests should not be overlooked.There is an old saying that:Interest is the best teacher.No one is absolutely willing to undertake what he does not like at all.On the contrary,a person will devote to a field no matter how idiosyncratic it seems to others.For example,Copernius,a famous astronomy,who founded a new theory,however,was not accepted by the public at his contemptary period,the Heliocentric Theory that he aclaimed was even regarded as a heresy.Utimately,as the time passed by,his contribution to the human beings was given a fair evaluation.This suggests that in some situaitons what the public consider idiosyncratic will not be worthless,probably it will be proved to be a new discovery,which,in the nature,will make a huge progress to the society.

In conclution,in the field of academic,it is partial to emphsize either what scholars and reseachers contribute to the society or that they pursue their interests,both of which should be considered properly.

那还得请教, 你说要是说这题目说的是"应该关注学者的贡献还是兴趣的话"  那这两者根本不矛盾啊, 还有那你论证那一段怎么说明,我们应该关注科学家的兴趣呢?是因为兴趣对科学研究重要,结果我们就要关注么?
