Issue161:
In this age of intensive media coverage, it is no longer possible for a society to regard any woman or man as a hero. The reputation of anyone who is subjected to media scrutiny will eventually be diminished.
最后一段例子没来及写
In contemporary society, media coverage is indeed prevalent everywhere in our lives. Quite a lot of information and evaluations are exposed to us, influencing our estimation of almost everything, including the term "hero". However, the media coverage and its scrutiny are destined not to make heroes extinct, but that it has its own way to evaluate and establish heroes. "Hero" actually is a concept in the mind of human beings, related with idealism to some extent. Any technique or new method will not diminish this concept, for human beings feel they need them--heroes. A hero is, strictly, not a concrete definition of certain kind of people. When people feel like having a person to respect, to imitate, or to represent a certain spirit or phenomenon, the "hero" will come out. Therefore, my contention is that, although the reputation of anyone one is possible to be subjected to media scrutiny, society and its people will undoubtedly continue to regard someone as a hero.

It should be conceded firstly that under today's intense media coverage, the reputation of people, especially these celebrities, is more easily impacted by media. Before, when people talked about a hero, they generally knew only one aspect of the person, that is, the aspect the "hero" was excellent at,which made his famous. This is the usual case of celebrities at any time. Any man or woman can not be perfect in any field and any aspect of their lives. They need not to be at all. It is the most ordinary thing that a person has some defects, and other people could understand this point easily. Yet today's media tend to pry into everything related to one person if they want to know. This action sometimes indeed impacts some of the traditional type of heroes. These heroes do not adapt to be brilliant in everything. They are just concern about their own professions. For common populace, some defects of the celebrities are possible to give them a faulty expression. Especially to celebrities who do not think highly of the job of media, or encounter some irresponsible mediums, they are more likely to become the new "victims" of the new type of media scrutiny.

However, the cases above can only help alter a bit of the establishment of heroes. Media coverage is also used by someone to make reputation. There are always some people good at making use of opportunities to show to populace their greatness, by making some seemingly smart words or gracious behaviors. Because the time for them before the camera is far less in real life, people are possible to be misled just from the judge of images before media.

Moreover, media not only like to destroy someone's reputation, they are also engaged in to deliberately "build up" some reputation for certain people, or say, to "make heroes". examples...

In sum, "hero" is a permanent concept existing in people's mind, regardless of the propaganda method of the time. The media coverage will only alter somewhat the fashion people define or discover heroes, but not at all diminish the existence of heroes.
