The following appeared in a memo from the owner of Green Thumb Gardening Center, a small business serving a suburban town.
'There is evidence that consumers are becoming more and more interested in growing their own vegetables. A national survey conducted last month indicated that many consumers were dissatisfied with the quality of fresh vegetables available in supermarkets. And locally, the gardening magazine Great Gardens has sold out at the Village News stand three months in a row. Thus, we at Green Thumb Gardening Center can increase our profits by greatly expanding the variety of vegetable seeds we stock for gardeners this coming spring.'

Citing two evidences that a national survey showing that many consumers were dissatisfied with the quality of fresh vegetables and that gardening magazine were sold well locally, the author of the argument concludes that consumers are becoming interested in growing their own vegetables. Thus he advises that by greatly expanding the variety of vegetable seeds, the Green Thumb Gardening Center can increase profits. This argument, seems to be reasonable at first glance, however, suffers from several flaws.

The first problem concerns with the reliability of the national survey cited by the author. This survey aimed at the quality of vegetables available in supermarkets. But what about the quality of that available at others places such as the fresh markets? If they satisfied consumers very well, then the outcome of the survey cannot be cited as to prove the quality of vegetables is bad. Besides, one month is too short a time for the survey to show the real situation. It is very possible that the whether changed dramatically that many of the vegetables were affected by this change, thus led to the low quality. When the whether becomes normal, the quality may probably return to original high level. In addition, even assuming that the results of the survey do indicate that consumers felt dissatisfied with the quality of vegetables in nationwide, whether this can also show the situation in the town where Green Thumb Gardening Center located is open to doubt. Therefore, without giving additional information, the national survey cannot be regarded as a reliable one.

Secondly, evening assuming that consumers are not satisfied with the store-bought vegetables, there is no evidence showing that they will likely grow there own vegetable. Even they felt satisfied, as long as these vegetables do not harm their health, the consumers may possibly go on to buy them, rather to grow their own instead. Further more, the mere fact that the gardening magazine Great Gardens has sold out at the Village News stand three months in a row cannot serve as an adequate evidence to show that consumers are becoming more and more interesting in growing vegetables. It is entirely possible that they are interested in growing flowers and plants, rather than vegetables, since the gardening magazine always contains information about how to grow flowers rather solely the guidance to grow vegetables.  Without considering these possibilities, it is groundless for the author to draw the conclusion that consumers are becoming more and more interested in growing their own vegetables and they will do this in the near future.

In conclusion, the advise of the author turns out to be a poor one since the author fails to convince us about the situation he suggests. To strengthen the argument, the author would have to show that the national survey is reliable and the results of which can reflect the situation in the local town where the gardening center carries out its services. To better evaluate the argument, the author should provide extra information proving that the consumers do become interested in growing vegetables and they will do this.

This argument, seems to be reasonable at first glance, however, suffers from several写出具体几点,例如2点,与正文对应 flaws.

Secondly, evening assuming that consumers are not satisfied with the store-bought vegetables, there is no evidence showing that they will likely grow there own vegetable. will不等于action,好Even they felt satisfied, as long as these vegetables do not harm their health, the consumers may possibly go on to buy them, rather to grow their own instead. Further more, the mere fact that the gardening magazine Great Gardens has sold out at the Village News stand three months in a row cannot serve as an adequate evidence to show that consumers are becoming more and more interesting in growing vegetables. It is entirely possible that they are interested in growing flowers and plants, rather than vegetables, 驳斥的非常好since the gardening magazine always contains information about how to grow flowers rather solely the guidance to grow vegetables.
