Position Description:
Prof. Lui Sha in the Department of Computer Science at UIUC is looking for a postdoc
researcher, for research and development in Safe Physics-AI. The core goal of this
research is to improve the safety and performance of deep learning solutions used in
cyber-physical systems, by integrating physics knowledge. Target applications include
autonomous ground and aerial vehicles. This research is fully funded by NASA and NSF.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team to contribute to cutting-edge
research and innovation in the realm of self-driving ground and aerial vehicles. This is a
unique opportunity to collaborate with leading experts in the field, apply state-of-the-art
techniques, and make significant contributions to the future of autonomous
transportation. Compensation includes a competitive postdoctoral salary with a
comprehensive benefits package. The expected start time is Spring 2024 or Fall 2024.
The position is for one year, with possible yearly renewal.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conduct research in Safe Physics-AI.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to integrate the developed solutions into
real autonomous systems.
• Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals.
• Participate in the design and execution of field experiments to validate results.
• Mentor graduate students working on related research projects.

Requirements:
• Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field.
• Strong experience in deep learning research and demonstrated proficiency using
related software tools and libraries, e.g., Tensorflow, PyTorch, Caffe.
• Proven track record of publications in relevant conferences and journals.
• Solid understanding of machine learning and deep learning techniques applied to
robotics.
• Strong communication skills in both written and spoken English.
• Experience in perception, planning, and/or control for autonomous ground or
aerial vehicles, preferred but not required.
