- 毕业后出路:实验室刚开张暂未有学生毕业。本领域学生毕业后多半入职Biotech公司,也有继续留在学术界的。
How to Apply:
Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Associate:
Interested applicants should email Dr. Zhang at jianz@uark.edu with the following:- A cover letter stating your research experiences/skills, interests, and career goals.
- Your latest CV with a list of publications.
- Names and contacts of three references.
Graduate Students:- Prospective graduate students are encouraged to contact Dr. Zhang directly following the guidelines for Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Associate.
- Prospective graduate students interested in joining the lab must first be admitted to the graduate program at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Please consult the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program (https://biomedical-engineering.uark.edu/) and the Cell and Molecular Biology Graduate Program (https://cell.uark.edu/) websites of the University of Arkansas for admission information. Please make sure to list Dr. Zhang as your advisor of interest in your application and clearly describe your research experiences, skills, and career goals.
- Qualified Ph.D. student: UAF offers qualified incoming Ph.D. students multiple doctoral fellowships, including the DDF and DAF, which add an additional $24,000/$12,000 a year on top of the regular full financial support.
About Dr. Jian Zhang:
Dr. Jian Zhang currently holds the Assistant Professor position in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Dr. Zhang has a B.S. degree in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Peking University in Beijing, China. Dr. Zhang completed his doctoral training with Dr. Yu-li Wang at Carnegie Mellon University and his postdoctoral training with Dr. Cynthia Reinhart-King at Vanderbilt University both in Biomedical Engineering in the United States. Dr. Zhang has won numerous awards in his career, among them the NIH Trailblazer Award.
Dr. Zhang completed some of the pioneering work in cancer mechanobiology that connects mechanics, bioenergetics, and cell engineering. These works were published in prestigious high-impact journals, such as Cancer Cells, Cell Metabolism, Advanced Science, and PNAS.
Research: Dr. Zhang’s current research is organized under the umbrella theme of Mechano-Metabolism and Technology Development in Cancer, with a focus on the bioenergetics of cancer cell migration and proliferation, physical cues in the tumor microenvironment, and the thermodynamics and mechanics of tumor cell clusters. Dr. Zhang’s research group is interested in applying engineering and physics principles to solve complex biological/biomedical problems. The research goal is twofold: 1) to develop novel quantitative and mechanical tools to help understand biomedical science, and 2) To explore unknown biomedical knowledge to improve human health.
Dr. Zhang’s research is currently supported by funding from the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, the Arkansas Integrative Metabolic Research Center, and the University of Arkansas.
