Does the way of video recording including TV and video clips become a more important form to record the contemporary life than the traditional way of written records? In my point of view, while video recording has its own feature and advantages, it is in a subordinate position to written records in several aspect of society today, or in a stage of combination with written records in other areas.

To begin with, video recording has become more and more significant in many aspect of life nowadays. Video recording is definitely more vivid and accurate, which could give its audience a more specific and comprehensive impression of a event it record, and consequently more easier to reach the inner world of audience and better to convey its ideas. Comparing to video records, any keen painters or journalists could not provide such effects to people who read their reports or works. Consider the 9/11 terror attack, without a television to record the collapse of the world trade center and people's horrific facial expression, perhaps many people especially those who are not Americans, would never consider such attack as condemnable as today's feeling and would not implant a determination to erudite all the terrorists who are challenging the world peace and democracy. Moreover, video recording has served a better form to supervise as a objective witness which could be used in legal proceedings against robbery, theft as well as illegal violent riots. Therefore, in term of its intensive impressions and spatial and accurate recording to the events, video records dose play a important role in many aspects of life.

Turing to other areas of life, compared with written records, video recording may turn out to be less useful in these areas which demand a more abstract notions and subtle difference between similar things or theories, since video record could never provide any scenes that could embrace such meaning. On the contrary, written record could reflect any abstract concepts such as laws and constitutions. Besides, its literally cognitive meaning could make people attention to different notions which may seems alike if record by videos through scenes. Consider business contract, most of times, the subtle change of the words could bring significant difference and even cause conflicts between the two sides. Only through written record and after a scrutiny about the words the contract contains , both sides could understand the real meaning the it indicates and avoid fraud . In such sense, video record could never become competent enough to provide the same function written records radiate. In fact, nowadays, the fact that written records are widely used in business and politics has best illustrate this point.

Moreover, turning to academic world, one may go no further that video record and written record have become a cooperative state to serve for the needs of education and academic researches. In classroom, teachers usually use the traditional text books or words to concretely explain a theory or concept and use video clips to better illustrate these points such as records of a experiments for students major in science or a video clips for a ballet performance for arts students. In fact, today, educators have used “power point” to largely maximize the merits of both video record and written records. Similarly, in academic research, experts still need written form to record statistics and data. But the video clips could also compensate the disadvantages of written records such as providing a more vivid way to record a experiments and specific reaction in a certain research. In short, in academic world, video records and written records could combine to better serve the use of human being.

To sum up, both video records and written records have their respective merits. Therefore, in different areas, they may seize a advantageous position to the other. In final analysis, in contemporary society, it is high important for us to combine both forms and to use them together for our objectives just like what we have done in academic world.
