41 Such nonmainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits play a vital role in society by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science.

I agree that nonmainstream areas of inquiry such as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits play an important role in society both in ancient times and at present. However, it is dangerous for the overall to over-evaluate the influence of astrology and paranormal pursuits.

I concede that it has significant meaning for most of the rulers or emperors since the pre-history era when people just found the correlation between stars or planets and the human affairs. At Roman times, for instance, the astrology was beginning to open for the ordinary citizens called 'vulgar’. Emperors were controlling minds of their people by spreading the popularity of using it all through daily life. As conciliation for the cruel ruling, people began to lose the faith of fighting with the emperors for the belief that all things are destined since born. Therefore, people were less angry about cruel governing and it necessarily lead to the peace of the nation for like hundreds of years.

Another compelling reason for the vital role of the nonmainstream areas of inquiry is that it satiates people with the nature of curiosity while given answers to some phenomenon that mainstream area cannot explain. Take the love affairs for example. Scientists are not capable of explain why two people fell in love at the first glance completely. But supernatural inquiries and horoscope take accounts for such kind of phenomenon and people who with great curiosity may be content with such kind of answers. Besides, sometimes people needs to console themselves through a particular way when one could not be satisfied from the relatives or friends such as the events of passing away of a family member. As long as people are unsatisfactory with their needs, the astrology and paranormal pursuits will take up a room in the human history. As long as there are things, which cannot be interpreted scientifically, these nonmainstream areas will play a role in daily life.

Notwithstanding the foregoing reasons why nonmainstream areas play such an important role would help to support the speaker’s view, the overvaluation poses certain problems on misleading people with numerous scientific concepts and therefore may even jeopardize people's lives. To state the importance of the inquiry not so sophisticated, people always transfer much more attention to the subject that may probably in no need of stressing. For example, it is entirely possible that a fortune-teller infer a person to a poor life all over his or her life span. Under such condition, how can the person be confident facing the challenging life? With the potential of danger that people may misunderstand a certain concept, what is wise for a rational human being is to look it full-scale.

To sum up, because there are the risk of the overvaluation on the influence of astrology and supernature, reasonable people will always disagree about accentuating the nonmainstream areas of inquiry. Accordingly, it is unacceptable to state that these areas can satisfy human needs all the time and in any event it would not replace mainstream science as a result.
