In the era of high efficiency leading to the promotion of people's attention on the controversial issue-----practicality, which is our great idol and deserve all powers and talents people serve, there exists a popular belief that anything that is not obviously practical has little value in today's world. Just logical, this argument sounds to be, I, however, advocate that the nowadays epoch calls for a balance on both practicality and impracticality.

First, to ensure the survival and success of our life in such a competitive world, one should lay much emphasis on practicality. The requirements of business and military could lend us much credence on this issue. In business, nothing but profit, a kind of practicality, could exist in our eyes for the simply reason that we need survival. Without profit, managers are not able to manipulate the company; workers lose the ability to contribute to the cooperation for they lose the impetus of future. Anyone in business would not like to gain some alleged fame at the cost of practicality, the life indeed. In military, practicality survive for the identical reason: The Great Wall, built thousands of years ago not for visiting by their sons and grandsons but defending their enemies, any new weapon, designed not for showing off the country's leading position in technology but threatening other countries, cooperation between two countries, not demonstrating how friendly they two seem to be but training the army for any potential danger. Therefore, business and military act as two windows of the practical world from which we can understand much more about the world's practicality and thus better our life in such a roaring time.

Second, it seems that people in nowadays does not lack of the sense that practicality is vital in today's world, but have a tendency----- a tendency that would like to deny the value of something that is not obviously practical. In fact, too much adherence to the practicality would undermine our process of living. Art, literature, and religion may be grouped as impractical; however any of them lack great value whether in today or ancient time. Take art as an example. Like language and social organization, art is essential to men as an embellishment and creation of objects beyond the requirement of basic needs of life and accompanied men since prehistoric time. Because of its almost unfailing consistency, it may respond to human biological and psychological needs. What is more important, it is almost impractical as well during the process of history. Without those practical such as money, one could not better their life; without those impractical such as art, one could not live their life for they cannot explore their identities, release their stresses accorded by practicality. Therefore, it is courageous and unusual to look around, to terminate our pace of life, and to lose the practicality. When a society embrace the practicality hear and soul, commitment to impracticality, however, can move us future.

Since practicality and impracticality are both crucial to human life, what should we opt from the counterproductive pairs. What we should do is nothing but balance. Balance from the overrated practicality to the normal level; balance from the extreme pursuit to the consideration on two aspects; balance from what we have already deserved to what we should be aptly accorded; in a word balance from practical to impractical.

In conclusion, without practicality we would suffer from the mundane earth and be depraved from conformity, luxury, and respect; without impracticality we would be lost in such practical world for lack of self-identity and crowded stress. Therefore balance between the practical high road and the impractical low road would be the best choice.

呵呵，sblbasler，你的文章写的很好，至少我这样认为，从开始的深入剖析，一针见血的指出当今社会商业和军事合作的目的是以利益为主导；然后，继续分析，指出需要一些非实际主义的东西，如艺术；最后将了要平衡这个原则；我想说这么几句：第一，商业和军事的例子可以修饰一下，可能和你心理急躁有关，把句子写的过于绝对，因为你一心想证明自己的观点，就一概去否定好的方面，其实不然，你可以明确的说商业合作是互惠的合作，各国都讲求一个利益的问题，军事合作更是如此，可以举一些国家为了自己的利益，贩卖武器给头号恐怖分子拉等不就挺迎合老美的利益吗？其它问题不大，好好放松，调整心态，保持自信，祝成功
