Issue 9  Academic disciplines have become so specialized in recent years that scholars' ideas reach only a narrow audience. Until scholars can reach a wider audience, their ideas will have little use.

提纲
1.学科不能远离大众脱离实际
2.有些大众无法理解的高深学科对社会帮助很大
3.学科的用处由其受众的范围和对社会的帮助决定

It is true that nowadays less and less people understand scholars' thoughts for the reason that academic disiplines have become more and more specialized. But I could agree with the speaker, since scholar's abstruse ideas may be useful and intrumental even though a few of andiences are wise of them.

First of all, I have to acknowledge that it may not be helpful to society if few audiences or even only the scholar himself know what he researches. Academic disciplines cannot be ivory-towered and hard to reach, for the purpose of disciplines is to serve our human beings and the whole scioety. It is also actual that the advancements of many kinds of disciplines need endeavors of scholars in company with their assistants as a whole. A common sense tell us that one man could seldom build The Empire Skyscraper by his own. Thereofore, scholars should not keep their knowledge from audiences and reality, because the final goal of subjects is to maximize their use to promote the developments of learning and society.

However, there are some disadvantages in the speaker's assertion. We may not deny the fact that many sorts of subjects which are too advanced to be understood by most audiences. At the same time, they are also vital to our society. For instance, the space technology, as a high specialized and deep discipline has a considerably limited audience. Usually only thronght a long-term and expert education could one man master the knowledge of space technology and most of us may not hace such experience. However, the use of the space technology is obvious to all. For example, a tremendous amount of space technology has been adapted for use in normal, everyday products that have promote that quality and safety of people's lives.Smoke detectors,Teflon non-stick coating, cordless power tools and a variety of protective clothing have all been developed using space technology. What is more, through space research, human being understand the role of us in the universe and maybe in the future we can live in the other planet such as the Mars.Consequently, academic disciplines could be serviceable not only to the academic research but to the daily lives of us, though on occasion it is somewhat uncome-at-able.

In my personal view, judging  the purposes of some subjects lies on both whether scholar's ideas are touched by a far-reaching audience and whether the sujects could help society as a whole. On one hand, for example, the ideologues such as the creator of Utopia -- More whose idea is considered as escapism does not be accepted by the majority of society. Besides, the subjects they research are disengaged severely from sociey and reality. Consequently, due to less and less audiences they have reached their thoughts fades away and turns out to be useless. In the other hand, as a well-known vehicle, airplane is the fastest civil one we have nowadays, but few of its drivers and passengers know how they are designed and produced. I think a tiny group of people are the experts on this field for the reason that to design and manufacture a plane requires a highly-specialized knowledge. However, convenience and speediness airplanes bring make the operation of our sociey faster and faster even if few get to the idea how they fly into the sky. Therefore, there are two kinds of standards of judgment on evaluating the use of an academic discipline--the area of andiences it reaches and the good it brings.

To conclusion, the speaker fail to see the internal relation between the number of audience of academic disciplines touch and the purposes of them. We should have a just and even judgment on the both sides.

It is true that nowadays less and less people understand scholars' thoughts for the reason that academic disiplines have become more and more specialized. But I could这个词用来表明自己的观点不大坚决吧 agree with the speaker, since scholar's abstruse ideas may be useful and intrumental even though a few of andiences are wise of them.

First of all,?Admittedly I have to acknowledge that it may not be helpful to society if few audiences or even only the scholar himself know what he researches. Academic disciplines cannot be ivory-towered and hard to reach, for the purpose of disciplines is to serve our human beings and the whole scioety. It is also actual that the advancements of many kinds of disciplines need endeavors of scholars in company with their assistants as a whole. Thereofore, scholars should not keep their knowledge from audiences and reality, because the final goal of subjects is to maximize their use to promote the developments of learning and society.

However, there are some disadvantages? in the speaker's assertion.换成说the speaker oversimplify了这个问题是不是更好?ts应该指出问题的所在啊,你接下来到底要说什么,这句太vague了 We may not deny the fact that many sorts of subjects which删 that后面就成了整个个主语呢 are too advanced to be understood by most audiences. At the same time, yet they are also vital to our society. For instance, the space technology, as a high specialized and deepabstruse discipline has a considerably limited audience. Usually only thronght a long-term and expert education could one man master the knowledge of space technology and most of us may not hace such experience. However, the use of the space technology is obvious to all. For example, a tremendous amount of space technology has been adapted for useusing in normal, everyday products that have promoted thatthe quality and safety of people's lives.Smoke detectors,Teflon non-stick coating, cordless power tools and a variety of protective clothing have all been developed by using space technology. What is more, through space research, human beings can understand the role of us in the universe and maybe in the future we can live in the other planet such as the Mars.Consequently, academic disciplines could be serviceable not only to the academic research but to the daily lives of us, though on occasion it is somewhat uncome-at-able.

To conclusion, the speaker fail to see the internal relation between the number of audience of academic disciplines touch and the purposes of them. We should have a just and even judgment on the both sides.
