Intelligent machines such as robots are widely applied to take the place of human beings. Please discuss the advantages and disadvantages.


Concerning the issue about the advantages and disadvantages of the intelligent machines such as robots, people always hold different views. To get full appreciation of this significant argument we must turn first to some concrete examples and, then, deduce it from general principle.

In one hand, as artificial intelligence was rapidly developed, robots were widely applied. Robots have brought about countless advantages for us. Even if one did not care the progresses of science, one can easily see some cases in which robots play a strictly utilitarian role in practice. Robots were able to work in any dangerous environments where man cannot access, and specialize in space exploration, marine research, and volcano reconnaissance, etc. Robots quite extended our cognition.

Furthermore, for this reason modern industry is based on the conception of the production at lowest cost, robots have fully been utilized. Robots can work around the clock, and never felt tired; and enable the efficiency to completely enhance. Robots which were man-made, so to speak, considerably bring about revolution of industry.

In the other hand, there were many disadvantages in the practice are undeniable and no mistake. Making use of robots may save lots of labour force, but, meanwhile, robots have occupied employment of which workers should originally take possession. Moreover, no matter how intelligent they were looked, robots are after all machines which made by integrated circuit and instructed by pre-set programme. Obviously, robots were unable to do anything creative, or even, anything without man.

As has been mentioned, all of these cases render us a direct understanding – though holding such-and-such disadvantages, intelligent machines, beyond doubt, also give us enormous helps wherever in practice or in industry, and it is a truth that, indeed, robots never act as a ruler to decide human beings.
