The following appeared as part of an article in a health and beauty magazine.
"A group of volunteers participated in a study of consumer responses to the new Luxess face cream. Every morning for a month, they washed their faces with mild soap and then applied Luxess. At the end of that month, most volunteers reported a marked improvement in the way their skin looked and felt. Thus it appears that Luxess is truly effective in improving the condition of facial skin."


While the author in the argument conlude that Luxess is effective in improving the condition of facial skin based on the survey presented above,  he ignors some other elements which might affect the conclusion.

First, how broad is the group and what about their age? The author dose not provide any information about these. If there are only 10 or less volunteers attend this survey, the result may not suitable to most of the consumer.  What is more, if most ot the volunteers are children and many of its consumer are young person, the result of the survey would have no sense.

Second, even if the  survey is presentative and accurate, there is no information provided that the volunteers' feeling would be accurate. These volunteers just feel and reported by themselves that their skin looked and felt better than ever before. However, their feeling might be affected by the sublinminary that after using Luxess, their skin would be improved.  Only provided professonal examnation of the skin would gurantee the accurate of their feeling.

Even if their feeling is accurate,  the improvement of their skin would be affect by the mild soap. No information provided that the improvement of their skin is made by Luxess. It has the possibility that the mild soap contains special elements which would improve the quality of the skin. Without providing any information of the relevent between the Luxess and the improvement of the skin, the author's conclusion is unpersvation.

Even if the volunteers' skin are improved by Luxess,  the author could not concluded that Luxess is effective in improving the condition of facial skin. It is known that the the period of the survey--one month, is too short to report any effection of a make-up. There might have other side-effects that do not show up yet.  It is possible that the effect of the improvements of the volunteers facial condition are improved by a short time, after a longer time, there would be no effection to the volunteers facial condition. What is more, it might damage the skin.

In sum, the author ignors some elements which might affect the conclusion. Only ensuring the presentative of the survey,  the accuration of the volunteers’s feeling and the exclusive the result of the mild soap, could the author concluded that the Luxess is truly effecive in improving the condition of the facial skin.
