17”There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws.”

Does every individual in our society have the responsibility to obey just laws but also to disobey the unjust ones? The speaker claim so, and I agree that the unjust laws exist as a defect in any society, either in past or present, and we should take certain action to address the problem. However it is presumptuous for the author to categorize laws completely into the two kinds and to call for disobedience as a resort further.

Few of us will refuse to acknowledge the existence of unjust laws, which is the result of despot or demagoguery, and cause certain disasters in human history. Consider the act that discriminates against blacks, females, or other unpredominant groups of our society. These laws trample the equality on which our societies should always place emphasis. Then consider the more egregious example about the laws by Nazism, whose goal is concern with eradicating Jews and the laws in USSR, which deprive people of their freedom. Any of such laws has make our societies suffer from the absence of freedom and equality, even put the humanity on the verge of death. Any individual, who cherish such qualities, should take some action to protest such laws, but not necessarily disobedience, which will defeat the goal of laws.

About the discrimination between just and unjust laws, lies my first argument of contention with the speaker's. For whether a law is just or not is rarely a straightforward issue. The judgment relies largely on the value judgment of different individuals, as a result, diverges in people's value system will necessarily manifest themselves in the debate about laws. For example euthanasia, which set incurable patients and their families from the agony both economic and physical, also deprive the lives of the patients'. Someone may take it as a blessing while others, especially who has certain religious belief, will take it as a malediction. If people are encouraged to disobey the law they think unjust, diverge in opinion will turn into a chaos, while the law is designed to prevent our society from chaos. Moreover, when people take extreme action to disobey the conceived unjust laws, more laws are doomed to be violated.

Recognizing that disobedience will defeat the original goal of laws, we should also realize that there are more desirable actions we can take to cure the social disease --that is to turn to legal system itself, our democratic system, education and so forth. By education, the spirit of human get lifted, and put more emphasis on the principles such as freedom, equality, which all just laws cherish. With the consciousness, mass media and individuals in our society can better reveal the defect of the legal system, and our political leaders cure the defect by legal reforms last. Only by such a moderate way can our society get rid of the trouble of unjust laws without defeating the original goal of legal system—to maintain the stability of our society.

In final analysis, I concede that the unjust laws' existence put our societies in trouble both in history or present. However the fact does justify the author's instigation of disobedience, for diverge in value system will put the society into chaos and render far more laws violated. Only by legal itself can we bring the unjust laws to an end.

感觉这篇文章有点散了,还有自己的态度也不是很明确的样子。感觉东西都有了,可是总好像有点无力。请把握住题目的重点,论述清楚那个why。Why disobey? Why obey? What’s the benefit of obey? What’s the harm of disobey? etc. 你的时间还很多,多练练吧。

1,unjust law
