Some people tend to say that nonmainstream areas play a crucial part in society, for the reason that those nonmainstream spheres, such as astrology , fortune--telling, and psychic and paramomal pirsuits could satisfy human needs that are not addressd by mainstream science. While conceding that nonmainstream areas of investigation, in some sense,  do serve to comfort people, I still hold that besides the merit, such investigation might be harmful to individuals at last, and finally, do more harm than good to the society.

There is no denying that , as many people claim, nonmainstream fields of researsh may play a important role in comforting people or, to some extent, satisfy the curiosity of those who believe in them.From my obversation, the vast majority of people having faith in nonmainstream spheres are those who lacking of education, and thus it is certainly much easier for them to turn for help to nonmainstream scales under the circumstances when science is hard to understand.Further, mainstream science, unlike the nonmainstream areas , would acknowledge that there are something existing can not be solved by science. On the contrary, nonmainstream spheres , would claim that they can meet whatever needs people may have.And that is the major reason why there are a large number of people believing in them: nonmainstream areas of inquiry can serve as a tool to satisfy their needs that hardly can do by mainstream science.Lacking both true knowledge of and faith in mainstream science, people would find themselves  indulged in the illusion built by nonmainstream inquiry.Another way such inquiry as astrology, fortune--telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits, could conform people by foreseeing their future, and therefore, when people have no idea about their future and feel resigned, the nonmainstream part come to resuce.

They may sevre to satisfy human needs that are not adressed by mainstream science, though, they eventually would do no good and even damage their faith and life.It might sound impossible to some people who believe in them, and it is understandable.After all, they have faith in them , and the investigation they beleve in promise to  meet all the needs.Nonmainstream areas of inquiry, for example, would claim that they are so powerful that all illness could be cured of, however severe the illness might be.Yet, empircial obversation proves that  a huge number of believers suffered from the wrong treatment of quarks or charlatans,and many of the patients even died in their hands.

Actually, nonmainstream spheres of research, are not only harmful to individuals who have faith in them , but also to the society as a whole.Probably, people would consider it is not likely, for thinking that nonmainstream spheres of inquiry, harmful they migth be to their believers, how could they  damage the society, since there are still people who do not take them seriously. However, we should not forget that nonmainstream subjects, play a fundamental part in the psychological and mental fields.By telling the future of the believers , which can not be made by mainstream science, they would have a great influence on the minds lacking true knowledge.In high probability, by foretelling the future that worrying the believers, they could lead them to the way against the society, by the means of affirming them the kind of behavior could bring them to heaven where they are dreaming of.

To some up, it is true that nonmainstream areas of investiation, by comforting people whose minds are indepent of knowledge, do play a part of vital importance, but in the long run, such research would be harmful, no matter form individuals' point of view, or from the perspective of the society as a whole.
