Is there such thing as purely objective observation? Different individuals may hold varies perspectives, just as there are no two leaves which are identical to each other. The speaker notes that all observation is subjective. I partly agree with the notion. Nevertheless, I insist there must exist objective observation. In the following discussion, I would like to present my reasons to support my point of view.

To begin with, it is no doubt that some kinds of facts are stubborn, which lead to objective observation, however subjective the observer is. Lending credence to my position is the fact that the sun rises in the east each morning, while it sets behind the mountains each evening. Nobody should be skeptical about this because it is so obvious a truth. Another example which plays the same role is the alternation of seasons. Moreover, when it comes to some scientific facts of theories which have long been admitted, people are supposed to consider them with objective thoughts. In addition, some historical events, which can never be altered by the emotions and prejudices, ought to be treated objectively. That is why historians often claim that people must respect the historical facts.

However, with respect to most events, people usually cannot help taking a subject insight. Also take the sunrise as example, people who see the sunrise may draw opposite conclusions according to different emotions they have. An optimistic one is sure to believe it will be a new and pleasant day again, whereas a pessimistic one thinks it will be a dull and boring day again. The phenomenon of sunrise does not differ even a little bit, yet the difference of the results is so striking. Meanwhile, in the domain of science, subjective notions exist as well. A telling example is that when Galileo stated that the earth is not flat but round and that the sun rather than earth is the center of the universe, almost everybody laughed at him, whose minds were replete with subjective assumption that the earth was undoubtedly the center. As a result, Galileo, the one who held the truth, was punished by church and theists.

Another striking example is that before development of Theory of Relativity people have long taken for granted the hypothesis that space and time is both linear, which also resulted from subjective observation. Furthermore, it is more difficult to keep objective when thinking of social science and humanity for the reason that these disciplines have fewer definite facts such as formula, equation and so forth. The main insights about sociology may considerably vary due to different experience and different circumstances.

It is true that being always objective is really not a piece of cake, in that people cannot comprehend the all-encompassing knowledge of a substance of event. Nonetheless, everyone ought to try his best to keep objective. Hence more progress will be made either in the field of science and sociology or in daily life of individuals.

To sum up, due to analysis and reasons above, I may safely arrive at the conclusion that objective observations exist, particularly in pure physical science. Yet subjective ones may play a preeminent role most of time. No matter how hard it may be, we should force ourselves to observe things objectively in order to get a comprehension as true as possible.
