49"Imaginative works such as novels, plays, films, fairy tales, and legends present a more accurate and meaningful picture of human experience than do factual accounts. Because the creators of fiction shape and focus reality rather than report on it literally, their creations have a more lasting significance."
In the statement presented above, the speaker points out that the imafinative (imaginative)works have more considerable meaning in that they reflect the reality which is in a paucity in the factual ones. However, from where I stand, I cannot agree with this assertion.
In the first place, it should be admitted that the imafinative (imaginative) works/ opus derives / roots/ stems/ arises from reality. Were it not for the inspiration from real life, there would be no conspicuous opus like "Star war", "The Day after Tomorrow" and the like. Yet, since imagination is one of the most significant features of such kind of works, and for the sake of drawing people's attention, they ineviably (inevitably) commix something that is exaggerating or it might modify the fact in accordance with the requirment (requirement) of the business market. More often than not, the creators will put in/ add to/ his/her subjective views or supposals to the works which might deform/ alter/ misrepresent/ falsity the truth of the events. What is more, some imaginative/ notional/ fancied works entirly (entirely) deviate from the reality namely the film “Star War", the literary series "Harry Porter", all of which are purely the dream or the fantasy of the creators. Hardly will the plots depicted in the works happen in the real world, let alone displaying the human experience.
In the second place, when turning to the factual accounts, these opuses, originated from the real society as well, are created to illustrate the actuality and make an attempt to disclose the truth to people. Take the reportages for example. Reality and objectivity are the two main charactors (characteristics) of them, whatever the author writes on the paper should be based on / on the basis of / founded on / accord to the fact, once there exist anything that has been distored (distorted) or garbled/ misrepresented, the work possesses no value. Another example is the chronicle plays. Admittedly, some of this kind of films are misleading and conceal the facts. Nevertheless, a truly historical film must depend on the truth of the past things. It should aim to tell the audiances (audiences) the fact but not a joke.
Therefore, literarily as the factual works report the reality, they convey the information with integrity rather than distort it. Were it not for the factual opus, we would be led to astray by the imaginative ones; were it not for the factual works, we would hardly assess to the great history our ancestors created; were it not for the factual works, we could not absorb the precious experience from our forefathers.
To sum up, speaker cannot rashly conclude that the imaginative works have long lasting significance while the factual ones do not. As a matter of fact, both of these works have their own merits. While the former stimulates people's imagination and predict some potential/ possible/ probable dangers, the latter one tends to mirror the present society and points out the prombles (problems) that already exist in the world.
