Anyhow, people will not invest in or work for a company with no financial reward. Yet, increasing more executives are now judged by the profits of their companies. For example, CEO Scott Cook is continually praised for turning Intuit , a small company with 120 employees and one product only in 1991, to billions-dollars business Giant ten years later. In short, whether a corporative executive is excellent or not is closely related to his/her main duty- to make as money as possible for the company.

However, there are heated debate on whether funds-raising be the only responsibility for corporate executives. Many argue that company leaders should also take issues such as environmental impact and working conditions into account. International companies, for example, when they set plants and factories in less-developed countries, they may be too greedy and irresponsible if they discard industrial waste without considering the potential hazard to the environment. But is this the fault of corporate executives? No. It is the law system who to blame. Provided the law is complete and fair, corporate executives would operate their companies within the law, as they do in most of the highly-developed countries. Take contemporary United States, Singapore, and Japan, for example. In these countries, legal system has already covered problems like moderate working hours and company’s duty for environment protection. Corporate executives in these countries, as a consequence, are free of moral and ethical concerns to pursue maximum profits, as long as they stay within the legal bounds.

Yet many other duties of corporate executives, such as team building and cultural creation, etc., are directly or indirectly pointed at funds-raising. Just take the team building for example. When corporate executives make a business strategy, operating or marketing, the strategy is supposed to direct all members of a company toward one clear goal. In a practical view, highly coordinate efforts among individuals often lead to higher productivity, and thus more profits. Similar is the case when companies or their leaders engage themselves in social services and charity groups. No matter how much money and human resources they devote, to take the risk of going extreme, they aim at customers and their money, attracted by the beautiful, human-concerned images of companies.
In conclusion, it is justifiable for corporate executives to bear maximum profits as their only responsibility, if they stay within laws complete and fair. At the same time, other duties or obligations for company leaders, such as teamwork building or image beautifying, all derive from this sole responsibility, that is , to make as much money as possible.
