With ever-increasing development of science and technology, the more high-tech media tools improve greatly our life. As the speaker claims, I strongly agree that the video camera has become an important form of documentation because of its accurate and convincing recording, but can not entirely substitute for written records.

In first place, the video camera can offer the accurate recording fast in most cases, especially in the spatial events. A telling example is the recording of a football match. The video cameras located in the several places around the football playground can record what happen there clearly and indeed audiences can get more visual enjoyment of the match than words. It is hard for written words to show the specific actions of twenty two players and the whole live ambiance in which thousands of crazy football fans yell for supporting their favorite team. When the player kick a goal, the video camera can record the whole process and replay it again, while it is almost impossible that the written words can record this action fast and accurately. Maybe the next goal has been kicked before the written language described how the player goal last time. How funny! Besides, in description of pageant, a birthday party or even a volcanic eruption, people would like to prefer to the video camera. It is just the advantage of the camera over the written words!

The video camera can also plays an indispensable role in the legal system by providing us convincing documentations of the events. For example, more and more polices used the video camera to record the progress of investigation on an accident. An accidence involved broken parts of cars, injured people and other possible things which might be the important evidences for finding out the real cause of the accidents and the person who should take the responsibility for the accidents. In that case, the video camera can record all the evidences rapidly when the police take though investigation about almost everything on the spot. If we use the written words to record a great amount of evidences, we might miss some significant evidences and waste precious times on the description of the evidences. In addition, the vehicle violation can be recorded by the video cameras placed in the appropriate places. If so, few drivers might not confess their behaviors in face of the convincing recording involved his cars and himself. In contrast, the written words, if at all, can be taken as less convincing evidences for us to record the driver's misconducts and charge them.

Although the video camera's accurate and convincing record indeed help us a lot in the form of documentation, the written record is still superior to the video camera for certain purposes. An apt example is literature works. The literature works like novels, provide the enjoyment of mind that the video camera cannot offer. The works record the mind and experience of the authors which the video might not show comprehensively. Even if the works are filmed by the filmmakers, the films tend to be added subjective color of the directors and actors, that is, their own understanding of the works, which might not reflect the author’s feeling in works.  

In conclusion, although the camera is very important tool to provide us with the accurate and convincing record in the spatial events and legal system, it cannot substitute for the written records overall because the words will be needed to record the mind and experience of people and more abstract things .
