The study of an academic discipline alters the way we perceive the world. After studying the discipline, we see the same world as before, but with different eyes.
------正文------
We and our predecessors live on the same planet. Many types of scenery remain the same no matter how long time goes by. But do we see the scenery in the same way like people did one thousand years ago or even just a hundred? I strongly agree with the speaker that the study of academic disciplines alter the way we perceive the world, after which we see the same world with quite different eyes.

To begin with, the study of natural sciences changes our view of the natural world we live in. We were born to be willing to believe what the world presents to us. We tend to believe, for example, it is true that chopsticks half in the water are broken, since they look like broken. We tend to believe that the earth is still and is the center of the cosmos, since every day we do see the sun rises from the east and set in the west, while we cannot feel any movement of the earth. Yet what we see, we feel, we hear, and we touch might be wrong. The scientific study, on the other hand, depends on different methods and could show people a totally different picture. By collecting the data and analyzing them in depth, scientists try to reveal the deeper rules underneath the phenomena we observe, which enjoy much more creditability than our senses. Students who study physics can learn from Copernicus that the earth is not the still center at all. Although the scenery they see is still the same, yet by knowing the deeper physical rules, their worldview definitely changes.

In the realm of humanities, the "Copernicus Revolution" happens too. Where common people take it for granted, philosophers might have more insightful ideas that change the ordinary view. Take the epistemology filed for example. People have long been holding that the properties of the objects we observe belong to objects per se. A book, for example, is white because the book itself has the property of whiteness. We can talk about its front cover and back cover because the book has the property of obverseness and reverseness. No matter there are human beings or not, these properties are always there. When reading Immanuel Kant, who critically contemplates this common view and examines the structure of human cognition in depth, however, students will have a quite different view. Many Kantians argue that the book is only a thing-in-itself, whose original qualities cannot be understood by observers. What we can know, they say, is only the phenomena, which provided by the book itself but organized by human mind. Those observable properties, whiteness, obverseness, causality, etc., are in fact categories within human mind, without which no property can exist at all. Therefore, objects are no longer the center of our cognition, but we people ourselves. Again, the book is still the same book, yet by studying an academic discipline people’s view changes.

The discussion of human cognition and the natural world still continue. With the development of technologies and deeper rethinking of former theories, scholars might repeatedly overthrow the views of their predecessors. Anyhow, owing to the different methods scientists use and critical thinking of philosophers, scholars of those realms give another viewpoint to see the world. The phenomena of the world are always the same as it stands; yet the study of academic disciplines offers us quite a different understanding.

We tend to believe that the earth is still and is the center of the cosmos, since every day we do see the sun rises from the east and sets in the west, while? we cannot feel any movement of the earth. Yet what we see, we (删?后同) feel, we hear, and we touch might be wrong. Although the scenery they see is still the same, yet by knowing the deeper physical rules, their worldview definitely changes.(如果后面重点谈学习自然科学之后,前面那些假象的真相是什么样的,就非常bingo了!)

In the realm of humanities, the "Copernicus Revolution" happens too. Where common people take it for granted, philosophers might have more insightful ideas that change the ordinary view. Take the epistemology filed (删?) for example. Those observable properties, whiteness, obverseness, causality, etc., are in fact categories within human mind, without which no property can exist at all. Therefore, objects are no longer the center of our cognition, but we people ourselves. Again, the book is still the same book, yet by studying an academic discipline people’s view changes.book可否来对应discipline?

The discussion of human cognition and the natural world still continue. With the development of technologies and deeper rethinking of former theories, scholars might repeatedly overthrow the views of their predecessors. (MS离题) Anyhow, owing to the different methods scientists use and critical thinking of philosophers, scholars of those realms give another viewpoint to see the world. The phenomena of the world are always the same as it stands; yet the study of academic disciplines offers us quite a different understanding.

B1改一下就很不错了。B2似懂非懂。老哥是学哲学的?
还有,为什么不谈谈art?谈谈艺术家看待世界的不同视角?比如新概念4 上那篇谈sculptor的文章。
Goodall's mother once told her:
"Jane, if you really want to do something, you work hard, you stick to it until there's an opportunity."

以前上过课。book是用来做例子的,换成花瓶什么的都行。不和discipline对应。今天art的题我都没写还敢在这儿提?而且原文说的是academic discipline,学院气浓一些。艺术家不合适吧。
